Primary Purpose:
Delivers small group dyslexia intervention services at CISD campuses using research-based instruction in accordance with the Texas Education Agency dyslexia program descriptors. Serves as an instructional resource person in the development and improvement of campus dyslexia programs.
Education / Certification:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university (Masters degree preferred).
- Valid Texas teaching certificate.
- Subject area concentration in elementary reading/language arts (required).
- Endorsement or certification as Reading Specialist Certified Academic Language Therapist Multisensory Structured Language Therapist or comparable experience (preferred).
- Teaching certification held in multiple areas is preferred.
- Bilingual certification preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge of elementary curriculum and instruction.
- Knowledge of critical evidence based components of dyslexia instruction as outlined in The Dyslexia Handbook
- Strong organizational communication public relations and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and fidelity of programming.
- Knowledge of school systems classroom management and instructional strategies.
- Knowledge of IEP/ 504 accommodations
Experience / Other Requirements:
- Three years teaching in elementary reading/language arts.
- Previous experience in providing reading intervention.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides support services for students identified with dyslexia using multisensory intensive direct phonics instruction
- Assists the administration/teachers in identifying students with characteristics of dyslexia
- Administers dyslexia assessments to students.
- Attends initial 504 dyslexia meetings to share assessment results with the 504 committee
- Serves as a resource person by providing teachers with effective strategies designed to meet the needs of dyslexic students
- Maintains record keeping on students served for program evaluation purposes
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student information and data
- Collaborates with district Dyslexia Coordinators to maintain a district and campus vision for program improvement
- Designs a flexible schedule to maximize service to qualified students
- Provides support for parent involvement and other campus initiatives
- Serves on RTI ARD 504 and other campus committees as needed
- Participates in professional growth activities to include monthly team trainings/meetings with Dyslexia Coordinators for continued professional development regarding best practices
- Presents professional development on dyslexia and related disorders
- Keeps teachers/parents and administrators informed of student progress
- Assists campus and district team in program evaluation
- Assists teachers interpreting STAAR data for students with dyslexia.
- Promotes evidence based reading instruction by sharing current information and other resources
- Attends appropriate CISD instructional meetings
- Maintains a positive and effective relationship with staff and supervisors
- Communicates effectively with colleagues students and parents
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule
- Performs other duties as assigned.
