We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Technical Writer with at least 6 years of experience including demonstrable work on government data projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating maintaining and enhancing a wide range of technical documentation that supports complex cloud-based legacy and hybrid data environments. This role requires the ability to work closely with engineers analysts and stakeholders to translate technical concepts into clear concise and user-friendly content.
This position is remote-capable with on-site work required in Washington DC as needed for customer engagements and document reviews.
Develop and maintain technical documentation including system design documents user manuals Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) security documentation data dictionaries and interface control documents.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers engineers security analysts BI analysts and project managers to gather and synthesize technical information.
Write and update documentation in alignment with government compliance standards including NIST FISMA and FedRAMP when applicable.
Translate complex information into structured accessible formats tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
Support the documentation of legacy modernization efforts including transitioning from systems such as COBOL DB2 and JCL to modern cloud architectures.
Assist with preparing materials for technical reviews audits and Authority to Operate (ATO) processes.
Ensure version control consistency and quality of documentation across all platforms and teams.
Utilize tools such as IBM Rational Suite or other documentation management platforms to author manage and track content.

Bachelors degree in Technical Communication Information Technology Computer Science or a related field.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in technical writing or documentation roles working on a government data project preferably with the IRS.
Proven ability to document technical systems involving cloud platforms data analytics ETL processes and legacy systems.
Strong understanding of IT systems architecture data workflows and access governance practices.
Familiarity with documentation standards for federal systems (e.g. NIST FISMA).
Excellent writing editing organizational and communication skills.
Experience using IBM Rational Suite Confluence or similar documentation platforms.
Understanding of metadata and data governance tools such as Informatica EDC/Axon and Immuta.
Prior involvement in ATO documentation or other compliance-oriented government deliverables.
Exposure to cloud-based analytics or AI/ML platforms (e.g. AAP).
Remote-friendly role with periodic on-site presence in Washington DC for meetings and milestone reviews. Must be in the Washington DC metro area.
