Job Overview
The Principal Engineer Cloud Hardware is a technical leader responsible for defining best practices optimizing and influencing cloud hardware architecture to support T-Mobiles computer networking and storage environments. This role integrates high-performance hardware solutions including processors storage systems PCBAs power systems and networking equipment ensuring scalability security and operational efficiency. The Principal Engineer solves complex cloud-hardware challenges leads vendor engagement and contributes to technical strategy. Determines methods and procedures for new assignments works independently and provides guidance to engineering teams.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Define and influence cloud hardware architecture system designs and performance strategies. Ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Lead efforts to optimize cloud hardware components with software platforms enhancing system performance.
  • Address complex hardware-related performance issues drive root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions.
  • Develop and implement automation solutions to streamline cloud hardware deployment monitoring and maintenance.
  • Ensure hardware security best practices and compliance with industry standards and internal governance.
  • Act as a technical advisor for vendors and internal teams ensuring best-in-class hardware solutions.
  • Support additional cloud and hardware-related initiatives as needed.
Education and Work Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree Computer Engineering Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience (Required)
  • Masters/Advanced Degree Masters or PhD in a relevant field (Preferred)
  • 7-10 years Experience in cloud hardware engineering infrastructure optimization or related technical fields. Required
  • 7-10 years Hands-on experience with server hardware components including processors storage PCBAs power systems and networking equipment. Required
  • 7-10 years Experience with hardware-software integration troubleshooting performance issues and driving efficiency improvements. Required
  • 7-10 years Broader leadership experience in cloud environments automation or vendor collaboration. Preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Cloud Infrastructure Expert-level understanding of cloud and hardware systems including computer networking and storage components. (Required)
  • Hardware & Software Integration Proven ability to optimize cloud hardware with software systems for maximum efficiency. (Required)
  • Advanced Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis Experience diagnosing and resolving highly complex hardware performance issues. (Required)
  • Strategic Collaboration & Vendor Management Works with vendors and internal teams to ensure hardware solutions meet performance and cost standards. (Required)
  • Security Compliance & Governance Deep knowledge of hardware security compliance frameworks and risk mitigation strategies. (Required)
  • Automation & Innovation Leads automation initiatives for cloud hardware deployment monitoring and lifecycle management. (Required)

    Base Pay Range: $132400 - $238900

    Corporate Bonus Target: 20%

    The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidates actual pay will be based on various factors such as work location qualifications and experience so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

    At T-Mobile employees in regular non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employees eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
