The City of Edmonton is seeking a passionate and innovative Project Engineer to play a vital role in shaping the future of our City. This isnt just a job; its an opportunity to contribute to building a more connected sustainable and accessible city for everyone.
As a key member of our Transportation Engineering team youll be at the heart of the development process ensuring that transportation upgrades support and development projects. Youll be instrumental in reviewing and setting conditions for a variety of applications including development permit applications.
What will you do:
- Apply knowledge of transportation engineering including transit active transportation traffic operations engineering design and construction standards in reviewing Development Permit Applications and access requests from a transportation perspective
- Evaluate and identify requirements needed for approval of traffic impact assessments and other engineering studies
- Ensure compliance with City of Edmonton policies bylaws and the City of Edmonton guiding documents (such as City Plan Zoning Bylaw Access Management Guidelines City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction Specifications Plans in Effect)
- Identify ongoing or anticipated municipal priorities projects emerging trends or other relevant considerations and integrate these into sensitive and/or complex engineering decisions
- Complete written responses that clearly and concisely include all transportation requirements precisely established as conditions and advisements of an application
- Liaise and collaborate with consultants other City staff utilities and other affected agencies and stakeholders to resolve issues
- Organize lead and participate in meetings with property owners consultants utility agencies and other City staff related to proposed applications and transportation related issues
- Review and respond to access approval requests
- Review City circulations to ensure there are no development application conflicts
- Review Road Plan circulations and prepare documents for final sign off
- Review and/or approve responses to Utility Line Assignments
- Perform additional related duties as required
Skills required for success:
- Experience in reviewing and preparing responses to Land Development Applications (including subdivisions rezonings road closures neighbourhood structure plans (NSP) area structure plans (ASP) and/ municipal development plans (MDP)) and/or
- Development Permit Applications from a transportation perspective
- Experience writing evaluating and/or approving Transportation Impact Assessments
- Experience in reviewing preparing responses and approving access requests
- Experience in developing reviewing and commenting on plans and/or drawings
- Demonstrated high capacity to manage and balance a high workload
- Proven ability to make independent and efficient decisions
- Knowledge of City standards strategic policy documents and the City of Edmonton Zoning Bylaw
- Knowledge of a variety of computer software and Google Workspace (gmail docs sheets slides etc.)
- Proven ability to manage protocols and establish positive interpersonal relationships with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent collaboration problem solving decision making and negotiation skills
- Proven ability to work within a team including contributing collaborating and communicating to achieve a project or goal
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
- Proven ability to provide guidance and coaching to technical and support staff

Assets:
- Masters degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering

- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite.
