Job Description:

Portledge School is seeking an enthusiastic and mission-aligned Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to lead and support the development of student-athletes within its Upper School basketball program. The coach will work in partnership with the Varsity Head Coach and Athletics Department to prepare players for competition and potential advancement to the varsity level. Responsibilities and Duties:

• Design and implement practice plans that develop individual skills team concepts and sportsmanship.

• Create a positive inclusive and structured environment that supports personal and athletic growth.
  
  

• Teach and reinforce basketball fundamentals strategy and conditioning appropriate for JV-level players.
  
  

• Work closely with the Varsity Head Coach to ensure program alignment and consistency in player development.
  
  

• Serve as a mentor and role model to student-athletes emphasizing teamwork discipline and respect.
  
  

• Maintain open and professional communication with players parents and school staff.
  
  

• Support logistics related to team travel uniforms and scheduling in coordination with the Athletics Department.
  
  

• Uphold all PSAA NYSAIS and NFHS regulations and guidelines.
  
  

• Attend all practices games (home and away - traveling on the bus with the team)and program-related events.
  
  

• Assist with video review and player feedback as needed (experience with Hudl preferred).
  
  

Qualifications and Skills:

• Previous coaching experience preferably at the middle school JV or varsity level.
  
  

• Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and team-building strategies.
  
  

• Ability to inspire and connect with student-athletes of varying skill levels.
  
  

• Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills.
  
  

• High level of integrity and professionalism in representing the school and athletic program.
  
  

• Bachelors degree preferred (in education sports management or a related field).
  
  

• Availability for evening and weekend commitments including travel for away games.
  
  

• Experience with video analysis tools (e.g. Hudl) is a plus.
  
  

• Commitment to upholding the values of an independent school community.

Season:

Practice will start approximately around November 1 2025 and end approximately around March 15 2026.
