PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Leave Specialist provides leave of absence support to employees in compliance with Judson ISDs policies and guidelines Federal and State regulations and makes administrative and operational recommendations on matters pertaining to these and other programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or equivalent years of work experience in leave administration employee benefits human resources or related field
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • External applicants must have satisfactory outcome of background check. Non-refundable fee (approximate $50.00) paid by the candidate.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of federal state and local laws pertaining to leave of absence administration
  • Working knowledge of employer benefit programs including health/welfare plans FMLA/TDL and ADA.
  • Knowledge of Federal State and Local guidelines regarding health and safety protocols in the workplace.
  • Skill in gathering/organizing data and utilizing various statistical techniques to assist in formulating conclusions and developing reports
  • Skill in computer applications Windows Skyward MS Word MS Excel and on-line benefit enrollment software
  • Ability to present oral and written information in a comprehensive and organized manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide a high level of customer service to district personnel
  • Ability to work independently and perform a variety of complex activities simultaneously

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of leave administration employee benefits or human resources in a school district preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities skills efforts or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required. The current organizational chart may change)

  • Responsible for counseling District employees concerning pay leave benefits assignment and other issues when placed on a leave of absence.
  • Maintains leave of absence spreadsheet to include intermittent leave and employees on leave due to injury (WC).
  • Communicates with employees on submittal of leave logs.
  • Disseminates ADA accommodation information processes medical documentation and communicates with supervisor/principal/ES coordinator/HR director in determining reasonableness of requests.
  • Discusses any leave or return to work disputes with Employee Services Coordinator and Human Resource Director.
  • Acts as liaison between District and TASB Legal regarding FMLA concerns.
  • Reviews board policy for leave compliance.
  • Assists with new employee orientations open enrollment new teacher academy and health fair.
  • Answers employees questions concerning insurance and/or leave and provides answers to carriers regarding employee status and benefits.
  • Works with vendors to plan monthly vitamin shot clinics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Sends gathers and tracks paperwork of employees out on leave as necessary
  • Works with Payroll department regarding employees leave and benefits team to collect or stop premiums as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information
  • Attends local state and/or national professional conferences or workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on department needs.
  • Must complete designated district technology proficiency each year.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills.
  • Ability to use personal computers to access district programs emails and other resources.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educators Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Equipment:

Computer computer software programs and peripherals teacher resource materials and equipment copier fax and other equipment applicable to position.

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) interpret policies and procedures reason read understand verbal instructions analyze differentiate coordinate compile instruct and maintain emotional control.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift and/or carry moderate weight (15-44 pounds) sit stand walk climb stairs or ladder reach repetitive hand motions hear speak travel infrequently within the District and occasionally outside the district/county may experience prolonged and irregular work hours and work with frequent interruptions.

Environmental Factors:

Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold) humidity extremes noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases bacteria insects mold fungi etc.)
