Job Description
Summary: The Accounting Assistant in the Finance Office of Queens University is a full-time temporary nonexempt staff position that supports the work of the Finance team. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the Accounting Coordinator Senior Account and the Controller with routine daily weekly and monthly accounting compliance and student employment tasks.
The Accounting Assistant reports to the Controller. This position is not exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible to earn overtime pay for hours worked above 40 in a single work week. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Create and submit journal entries for Controllers approval
- Enter approved invoices into the Accounts Payable module
- Review monthly purchasing card activity
- Review student employment contracts
- Maintain vendor files
Non-Essential Duties:
- Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and University needs.
Experience Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Experience with computerized data entry
- Ability to multitask prioritize and organize work effectively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
- Completed college level accounting coursework
