For over 100 years Maguire Iron has been an industry leader in the fabrication construction and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The New Tank Field Welder will weld cut and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment for the construction and erection of new water towers and tanks. The position will require good knowledge of welding techniques and the ability to produce quality work.
Job Summary:
Maguire is seeking a highly skilled and safety-oriented Crew Foreman to lead field crews in the construction and repair of potable water ground storage tanks throughout Texas. The Crew Foreman will coordinate daily site activities oversee welders and general laborers ensure safety and quality standards compliance and work closely with project management to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise and coordinate activities of welding and construction crews on-site.
- Interpret and implement construction drawings specifications and weld procedures.
- Plan and delegate tasks ensuring efficient use of labor equipment and materials.
- Monitor all welding and fabrication work to ensure compliance with AWWA D100 and client specifications.
- Enforce safety policies and perform daily job hazard analyses (JHAs).
- Coordinate inspections and testing including visual weld inspections and assisting with NDT procedures.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for field-level communication between the crew and project management.
- Maintain daily logs timesheets and production reports.
- Ensure proper maintenance and usage of equipment and tools.
- Train and mentor crew members in best practices safety and quality standards.
- Identify and proactively address issues that may impact productivity or quality.
- Perform structural welding on ground storage tanks used for potable water.
- Assemble and weld carbon steel plates and structural components according to engineering drawings blueprints and specifications.
- Ensure all welds meet required codes and standards including AWWA D100.
- Operate welding and cutting equipment including arc welders grinders torches and other hand tools.
- Perform fit-up layout and alignment of large steel components for tank shells roofs and floors.
- Follow all OSHA company and site-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights when necessary.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and equipment.

Qualifications:

- Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company three-year training program is required.
- Must be able to pass a company weld test.
- Strong leadership communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and manage a crew in a fast-paced environment.
- Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs uses maintenance and repair.
- Understanding of design techniques principles and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans drawings models and blueprints.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with potable water tank construction and familiarity with AWWA standards are highly preferred.
- Willingness to travel within Texas and work extended hours as project demands.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation required.
- Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
- Adhere to Maguires Personal Protective Equipment Policy and Safety Programs.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work outside in both hot and cold environments.
- Must be able to weld components that are vertical flat or overhead.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse construction sites by climbing balancing lifting walking stooping and carrying materials.
- Must be able to climb up to heights of 100 feet.
