Job Description

GREATER NEW BEDFORD REGIONAL VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL

Plumbing Teaching Assistant- 1 year Grant funded - After Dark Program

School year - Monday - Friday 3:00-6:00 p.m. - Flexible Days available

The After Dark Program allows students who participate to have the opporunity to obtain a Chapter 74Plumbing Certification in collaboration with the New Bedford High School.

Recommended Minimum Qualification

  • High School graduate
  • Experience in Plumbing and hand and power tool safety preferred
  • Prior experience working with young adults desired

Essential Functions:

  1. Keep records
  2. Observe and report information observed
  3. Disseminate information to individuals parents groups relating to the specific program purposes functions and goals
  4. Prepare instructional materials and supplies for use
  5. Assist in the supervision of pupils
  6. Assist with grading and marking papers
  7. Tutor pupils as directed
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assiged by the teacher

Knowledge Ability and Skills:

Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge and use of materials and resources in accordance with the adopted curriculum and consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided

Ability.
Ability to communicate effectively ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all school employees students teachers parents and vendors ability to recognize school-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions occasionally under time pressure.

Skills: Demonstrates enthusiasm for learning and interest in students. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of achievement and classroom behavior. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate effective knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population. Willing and able to perform assigned duties in a manner that is sensitive to different personalities respectful of the role and authority of school leaders sensitive to community dynamics. Serve as a role model and mentor to young students.

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as but not limited to a personal computer calculator copier and fax machine. Some climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping and repetitive motions.
