About the Opportunity

The Associate Director of Residential Life - Student Staff Recruitment Training and Development will oversee the development recruitment training and continued education of the student-staff members living learning and working at Northeastern University. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to student learning and innovative approaches to education. The Department of Residential Life supports over 11000 students living on our Boston campus. Under the direction of the Senior Director the Associate Director is a member of the department leadership team and provides oversight support and assistance to professional staff and students. The Associate Director will help develop departmental policy and decision-making functions for achieving departmental goals and objectives. They will be charged with coordinating and implementing departmental decisions and directives and will process and resolve student/parent/guardian or staff concerns.

The Associate Director will oversee critical functions within Residential Life including student-staff recruitment selection training development and advising. The successful candidate will be student centered and work collaboratively with other members of the Residential Life team to develop an innovative residential program that supports the needs of todays dynamic learners.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage the recruitment process for all student staff positions within Residential Life including developing job descriptions creating and implementing a hiring plan and coordinating interviews and selection processes.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive competency-based training programs for all student staff members including new staff orientation ongoing professional development and leadership training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the Division of Student Life to develop and implement cross-functional training initiatives for student staff members.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach to student staff members providing guidance and support as they navigate the challenges of working in a residential community.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of Residential Life including supervision of a team of Senior Assistant Directors.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to student staff recruitment training and development.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments within the Division of Student Life to provide a comprehensive and integrated approach to student development.
  • Participate in on-call duty rotation and respond to emergencies as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in student personnel higher education administration or related field preferred.
  • At least 6 years of professional work experience. Three years preferred in residence hall administration including experience as a live-in staff member.
  • Experience supervising midlevel Residential life professionals preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of student development research and theories preferred.
  • Demonstrates organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with computer applications and social media platforms as a tool for staff development and engagement.
  • Ability to work autonomously and ability to exercise excellent judgment and initiative in outlined areas of responsibility.
  • Experience with planning and implementing competency-based training preferred.
  • Experience and desire to work with and address the needs of a diverse student community of leader- learners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Expected Hiring Range:

$75210.00 - $106230.00

With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
