Thank you for your interest in the post of Project Architect in the National Investment Projects Team with Historic Environment Scotland that will be based in Longmore House Edinburgh. This is a permanent position.
The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination development and delivery of investment projects at the HES Properties in Care (PICs) associated ancillary accommodation and the wider HES Estate. This will encompass investment projects related to our cultural assets visitor-facing site infrastructure traditional skills and climate action programmes and will engage with local communities external stakeholders and partner organisations.

Key Responsibilities of this role
The National Investment Projects Team work on a wide variety of HES Investment Plan Projects from project initiation through development to delivery following the RIBA Plan of Work Stages aligned with the HES Project Management Office processes to support the purpose and vision of the HES Corporate Plan 2025-28: Heritage for All.

Key requirements of the role:
In order for you to be successful in this post we will be looking for you to submit a cover letter which addresses how you can meet each of the essential and desirable criteria (in up to 1200 words) using examples of where you have demonstrated these criteria previously. Essential:
Be an Architect registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
Comply with the Architects Code: Standards of Conduct and Practice fulfil the duties of professional memberships and champion their goals and objectives.
Be able to evidence the project management and delivery of projects through all RIBA Plan of Work stages including delivery of projects initiated by others.
Be self-motivating and able to initiate and develop projects and programmes with minimal supervision.
Be design focused communicative and have strong presentation skills.
Working knowledge of modern building construction practices detailing and specification alongside a working knowledge of traditional Scottish building construction techniques and a strong interest in architectural design within the historic environment.
Have a strong sustainability ethic and understanding of recognised current and future standards and approaches to tackling climate change and the transition to net zero emissions including those specific to retrofit projects in a conservation context.
Have knowledge and experience of setting up and coordinating complex programmes of work and resources in investment project conception development and delivery. This includes contract and finance management in relation to project budgets and construction projects.
Act as the Principal Designer or Designer where applicable for Investment Plan projects under the CDM Regulations.
Be able to implement the specialisms of design presentation and project management to support and develop the objectives of other teams.
Have knowledge and experience in the line management of people or teams including managing professional development.
Have knowledge and experience of building strong partnerships with others including the ability to negotiate develop and deliver using complex project structures and partnership models.
