Job Description:

The School of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Madison College is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator Biology & Science to provide vital administrative and technical support to students and faculty.

This position will be based at Madison Colleges North Region campuses primarily serving the Reedsburg and Portage locations. The Laboratory Coordinator Biology & Science will be responsible for managing and coordinating laboratory activities across both campuses. Regular travel between Reedsburg and Portage is required with occasional travel to the Truax Campus particularly during the summer. This role reports to the Associate Dean of the School of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics.

This is a part-time position scheduled for 20 hours per week year-round (52 weeks). The work schedule is Monday through Friday during operational hours of 8:00am 4:30pm. with specific working hours determined by the laboratory schedule.

Accountabilities:

  • Works with faculty and administration to accurately schedule classes and labs for future semesters to meet the needs of students instructors and degree programs.
  • Performs lab set up and take down; assemble prepare and arrange required materials models equipment for student and facility usage as required. Prepares models materials (such as cadavers and other specimens) and equipment for student projects.
  • Develops and maintains safe practices and procedures for the handling and use of materials specimens and electrical hazards for use by staff and students. Manage all safety and security related items including Safety Data Sheets eyewash stations safety showers first-aid kits emergency lights.
  • Within College regulations policies and procedures performs purchasing duties for assigned equipment supplies and/or services; obtains and as assigned may evaluate bids set up appropriate vendors and suppliers; prepares requisitions and purchase orders as assigned; coordinates with vendors to ensure equipment materials supplies and services are appropriately applied.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by performing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturers instructions; trouble shooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and technologies.
  • Analyze collect treat and ensure proper disposal of waste created in each lab following Madison College and EPA guidelines.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the related principles and procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate the methods procedures and concepts as taught by instructor
  • Ability to operate relevant equipment tools and/or software.
  • Knowledge and ability to oversee safety policies
  • Ability to install fix and maintain equipment and classrooms/labs

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
