About Our School

St. Michaels Catholic Preparatory School is a coeducational Catholic school serving students from Pre-K 3 through 12th grade in Austin Texas. The Lower School comprises grades PK3-4th the Middle School houses grades 5-8 and the Upper school includes grades 9-12. Purpose

The After-School Lead Teacher supports the mission of St. Michaels Catholic Preparatory School by creating a safe welcoming and engaging environment for Lower School students participating in After Prep and other after-school programs. Working under the guidance of the Associate Director of Auxiliary Programs the After-School Lead Teacher provides essential supervision and support during activities transitions and play. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and want to contribute to a joyful and caring community rooted in Catholic values. This position begins in August 2025.


Essential Job Functions

  • Supports and upholds the Catholic identity and mission of St. Michaels Prep
  • Serves as a positive role model and reflects the values of St. Michaels Prep
  • Supervises students during after-school activities snack and outdoor play
  • Plans and implements a variety of activities that promote student engagement and well-being
  • Maintains a safe respectful and inclusive environment
  • Manages materials cleaning up and preparing activity spaces
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with students staff and families
  • Supervises mentors and helps train Upper School student support staff to ensure they are effective and confident in their roles
  • Provides leadership and guidance to student staff during daily operations
  • Responds appropriately to student needs including minor injuries or behavioral issues
  • Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates professionalism in all responsibilities
  • Participates in team meetings and required training sessions
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children (camp school or volunteer setting) preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete upon hire)
  • EIM Training with the Diocese of Austin

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Enjoyment of and enthusiasm for working with elementary school-aged children
  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative when needed
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliability punctuality and a positive attitude
  • Ability to stay calm and composed in a busy environment

Working Conditions

  • Required to work weekday afternoons during program hours (generally 3:306:00 PM) with occasional earlier shifts on early release or conference days
  • Work is conducted in classrooms outdoor spaces gyms and playgrounds

Mental/Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Frequent movement including walking standing bending and active play
  • Supervision of students in environments with noise activity and varying weather conditions
