This is an Off-Schedule non-bargaining position.

JOB DESCRIPTION


The School Safety Officer is responsible for helping to ensure a safe and secure school environment for students staff and visitors at the assigned school campus. The School Safety Officer is highly visible in the parking lots crosswalks hallways cafeterias playgrounds and school grounds. Daily functions include patrolling of the school campus parking lots school facilities and grounds and interacting positively with students staff families and visitors. The School Safety Officer monitors campus security systems aides in school safety drills and provides the first response to intrusions or threats to school safety working in conjunction with Kennewick Police Department and school/district administrators.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Must currently or in the past have been a Commissioned Peace Officer accredited through a state certified training program; must have served as a Police Officer for a municipal county or state law enforcement agency in the United States.
  2. Successful completion of training or certification programs related toposition. Must attend in-service training courses or other meetings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  3. Must present transcripts of the highest level of education within thirty (30) days ofhire if applicable.
  4. Must be able toperformthe essential functions ofthe position withor without reasonable accommodation.
  5. Must be able to meet the physical demands of theposition.
  6. Mustpossesscurrent first aid card/CPR card or willingness to acquire one.
  7. Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  8. Positive references frompreviousemployers.
  9. Must commit to work the entire school year.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Previous commissioned police officer experience (if you have questions regarding qualifications please email ).
  2. Ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with students parents staff fellow employees and management.
  4. Ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
  5. Demonstration of sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students parents district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.
  6. Ability to use basic computer programs to maintain records enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  7. Must have strong interpersonal skills conflict resolution capabilities ability to collect objective data diffuse tense situations and mediate conflicts.
  8. Must manage unpredictable situations; be flexible diplomatic cooperative and patient while maintaining enthusiasm and exercising good judgment in difficult situations.
  9. Must have evidence of positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  10. Must demonstrate excellent attendance punctuality and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. AA or BA degree or equivalent in related field.
  2. Bilingual preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Uphold all board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  2. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  3. Supervise and maintain order in and about school property including school grounds playgrounds cafeterias restrooms parking lots hallways and areas on and near campus where students congregate.
  4. Maintain visibility and be immediately available for assisting staff and students in routine and emergency situations.
  5. Confront intruders and report all observed violations (trespassers and law violators) to the appropriate administrator.
  6. Work cooperatively with other staff in maintaining a safe orderly environment for all.
  7. Assist in supervising and maintaining order at recess and lunch.
  8. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior toward students staff and parents.
  9. Nurture and give attention to students with special needs.
  10. Work effectively with diverse student populations.
  11. Interact and communicate with police department as needed.
  12. Work with principal to maintain building policies and procedures.
  13. Provide strong positive interpersonal skills that diffuse situations and reduce tension.
  14. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
