General Statement:Westerly Public Schools seeks a highly effective preschool special educator to join our Brightstars 5 star preschool for our morning session (3 year olds). The successful candidate will have the skill set to create a safe learning environment where all students are engaged in learning at their readiness level towards RI Early Learning Standards.
Responsibilities:
- Designs and implements instruction that develops communication skills motor skills social emotional skills and academic learning skills.
- Provides small group instruction to students to meet their individualized IEP goals.
- Coordinates compliance with all special education regulations.
- Writes and implements goals and objectives consistent with students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and provides timely and regular progress reports on student development.
- Conducts evaluations or provides data as requested to guide the IEP for a student.
- Develops and implements behavior intervention plans to promote positive behaviors.
- Collaborates as a team member within preschool in supporting other staff members in responding to students needs.
- Supervises paraprofessionals through specific expectations and feedback.
- Sets ambitious learning goals for all students creates cognitively demanding tasks and models the belief that all students can master challenging material through effective effort.
- Assesses students understanding regularly with ambitious learning goals in mind and takes ownership of making necessary adjustments to instruction to reach goals despite setbacks.
- Passionate and optimistic about their students their content and the teaching profession.
- Can convey content in creative and engaging ways that align to standards.
- Scaffolds and differentiates instruction in order for all students to develop their early learning skills.
- Seeks to participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years successful experience in teaching or administration is preferred.
- Experience with integrated preschool instruction preferred.
- Education:
- Bachelors Degree from a recognized and accredited college or university.
- Masters Degree in Special Education is preferred.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.
