Job Description

The University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has one (1) full-time academic position available at the rank of Open Rank without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding with clinical duties at Seattle Childrens Hospital.

The Department of Laboratories at Seattle Childrens Hospital is recruiting a Medical Director of the Clinical Cell Processing Laboratory (CCPL) Associate Director of the Therapeutic Cell Production Core (TCPC) and Assistant Director of Transfusion Services.

The CCPL is a clinical cell therapy lab supporting Seattle Childrens Hospital cellular products pipeline and the CCPL Medical Director is responsible for supporting the development of standard practices and FACT accreditation and ensuring medical safety and regulatory compliance of the CCPL. The CCPL Medical Director will be responsible for working with clinical and research teams to maximize impact and safety oversee clinical operational aspects of the CCPL and serve as the Processing Facility Medical Director for CCPL FACT accreditation and as needed as the Processing Facility Director. They will provide on-site telephone or electronic consultation as needed for relevant activities and conduct educational programs for staff and trainees regarding cell-based products and procedures. The person will also be responsible for identifying areas for process improvement as part of CCPL program quality management plans and implementing strategic plans to resolve any identified weaknesses.

The TCPC is the Seattle Childrens Research Institutes research cell therapy laboratory. The Associate Medical Director is responsible for working with the TCPC Medical Director and TCPC Staff to support research processing workflows to develop IND-appropriate workflows to support research products to partner with TCPC teams as necessary for confirmation research product release and to develop next steps if products are out of IND-defined specifications.

As the Assistant Director of Transfusion Services at Seattle Childrens Hospital this person will also provide clinical cross on-call coverage for Transfusion Medicine services (approx. 1 week on-call per month) and participate in hospital transfusion medicine clinical support.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This is a full-time 12-month (July 1-June 30) service position and will remain open until filled with an anticipated start date of August 1 2025 or later.

This position is paid directly by Seattle Childrens Hospital and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to Seattle Childrens Hospital for information about compensation for this position.

The successful candidate musthave an MD (or foreign equivalent) and be board-eligible or board-certified in Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine. Must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington State. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) orequivalent asdetermined by the Secretary of Health andHuman Services.
