Job Description

Title:10th Grade Program Manager
Department: SEO High School Scholars San Francisco
Report to:Associate Director Programs
Compensation: $68640 - $73000
FLSA: Exempt
Location/Hours:

  • This is a full-time exempt position with a hybrid schedule requiring in-person work three days a week (including required Saturdays) and virtual work two days a week. The typical weekly schedule is as follows:
    • Fall Term: Tuesday through Saturday (3x a month); Monday through Friday (1x month).
    • Spring Term: Tuesday through Saturday (3x a month); Monday through Friday (1x month).
    • Summer Term: Monday through Friday.
    • In-person attendance is required for all Saturday programming dates and four days a week during the Summer Term.
  • Upon hire all candidates must be within commutable distance of SEOs offices at Three Embarcadero Center Promenade Level Suite P-1 San Francisco CA 94111.
  • Work requires local travel beyond the office for Saturday programming at the following locations (subject to change):

Founded in 1963 during the Civil Rights Movement SEO closes educational and career opportunity gaps for 7000 ambitious young people annually.

SEO Scholars is a free eight-year academic program that transforms public high school students in New York City San Francisco North Carolina and Miami into college graduates. SEO Scholars successfully educates and mentors students to and through college. 100% of Scholars are accepted into four-year colleges 85% of Scholars graduate with a Bachelors degree and 80% are first-generation college graduates. POSITION OVERVIEW

With a portfolio of operational strategic and student-facing responsibilities the 10th Grade Program Manager role provides the opportunity to make an impact both organization-wide and in direct service.

The 10th Grade Program Manager is responsible for advising and managing a cohort of up to 60 high school Scholars in their second year in the SEO Scholars program (rising 10th grade summer through end of 10th grade spring). This includes (1) building and maintaining a culture of high achievement and a supportive family-like community that ultimately drives student performance in high school and (2) leading students through programming (including mentoring and advisory curriculum) that will directly contribute to superior high school performance in preparation for successful admission to competitive four-year colleges and universities. It is our goal to send 100% of our high school graduates to competitive four-year colleges and universities for free.

  • Lead and implement SEO Scholars programming on Saturdays after school and during the summer. This includes designing and delivering Opening Circles and Advisory lessons and collaborating with instructional staff who serve your assigned cohort of Scholars.
  • Monitor the performance and engagement of all Scholars in assigned cohort including tracking and analyzing Scholar attendance assignment completion assessments and grades in SEO Scholars classes high school courses community college courses and standardized test scores.
  • Use data to drive advising discussions with Scholars.
  • Create and nurture an inclusive environment that encourages intellectual curiosity academic excellence and college readiness.
  • Collaborate with co-10th Grade Program Manager on college advising curriculum creation and adaptations to meet overall 10th Grade advising strategy.
  • Provide data-driven academic advising and appropriate psychosocial guidance to all Scholars in cohort which includes monitoring student attendance participation and performance at SEO and in high school and consulting with Associate Director of Program to refer out to other agencies as necessary.
  • Facilitate curriculum focused on holistic development of Scholars (i.e. development of academic mindsets effective study habits awareness of identity and SEL skills) in the context of their college-going journey.
  • Maximize retention of Scholars through strategic Scholar and family communication and meetings in consultation with the Associate Director of Program.
  • Manage dual enrollment/concurrent enrollment partnership opportunities for cohort through communication and collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Serve as primary parent contact for 10th grade students in your cohort and their families which includes leveraging data and learning partnerships to conduct individual and group parent meetings to foster Scholars successful completion of the program.
  • Facilitate instructor check-in meetings to gather information about Scholar performance and advise on action plans to support Scholars.
  • Collaborate with 9th and 11th grade staff to transition Scholars into and from the 10th grade each summer.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with parents school partners volunteers and corporate partners.
  • Assist with the planning coordination and supervision of occasional trips (e.g. college tours).
  • Effectively manage data in alignment with 11th grade goals and outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • 2 years public teaching/counseling experience strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience working with high school-age students.
  • Experience in student coaching and advising including interfacing with parents and families.
  • Experience in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Evidence of progressive career growth within roles increasing in responsibility and autonomy.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be practiced building professional relationships and delivering constructive honest and productive feedback to Scholars and family members.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and reporting skills with an affinity towards data-driven outcomes. Experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is highly preferred; other languages skills are welcome.
