Job Description

Position Summary

The Head Softball Coach/Intramural Coordinator is responsible for providing training direction encouragement motivation and advice to prepare athletes for games and competitive events adhering to the general employee guidelines as specified by the Personnel handbook the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Coordinate direct organize supervise and evaluate all aspects of the intramural sport programs for students faculty and staff of the college for the fall spring and summer semester.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E1 Grade 1: $56139 - $73632

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the softball program which includes developing and maintaining a competitive softball program scheduling games travel arrangements summer camps budgeting preparation of softball facility for competition recruiting monitor player academic responsibilities and any other duties assigned relating to the softball program.
  2. Supervise and discipline players both on and off the field.
  3. Hire and supervise assistant coaches during practice and the games.
  4. Recruit the best possible student athletes to Calhoun preferably in North Alabama.
  5. Report all relevant activities and actions to the athletic director Vice President of Student Services and the President.
  6. Follow the proper chain of command with any relevant issues in the college.
  7. Promote positive and productive relationships with all faculty and staff at the College service area businesses industries and agencies.
  8. Supervise and maintain the Calhoun softball facility and any other facility that is used by the softball team.
  9. Organize all practice and game plans for the players assistant coaches and managers to follow.
  10. Consistently monitor softball equipment to ensure that it is properly used.
  11. Demand proper conduct of the student athletes towards all members of the college and in the community.
  12. Assist the assigned athletic trainer.
  13. Coordinate the indoor practice schedule and facility use with the baseball coach and proper supervisors.
  14. Coordinate game concessions and participate in fundraising activities for the athletic department.
  15. Conduct fundraising activities for the softball program.
  16. Cooperate with the Office of Public Relations and local media in promoting Calhoun College.
  17. Manage Athletic Social Media pages and website including creating content and providing updates in a timely and uniform manner.
  18. Serve as liaison between Student Activities and the Athletic Department promoting and fostering engagement in all campus events.
  19. Abide by eligibility requirements established by Calhoun Community College ACCC and the NJCAA.
  20. Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
  21. Coordinate and enforce player study hall with the S.T.A.R.S Institute.
  22. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog Personnel Handbook and State Board Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
  23. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the program.
  24. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  25. Coordinate and assist with Intramural Officials and Umpires in the sports.
  26. Work with the Student Activities Coordinator to engage students in participating the intramural program and coordinate activity scheduling.
  27. Supervise and maintain all facilities that are used for intramural activities.
  28. Coordinate practice schedules and facility use for intramural activities with the athletic department and proper supervisors.
  29. Operate within the assigned budget for intramural activities.
  30. Provide a safe environment and medical assistance for injuries for all participants.
  31. Create and track participation reports for all intramural sport activities.
  32. Coordinate risk management plans and implementation.
  33. Create and maintain participant manuals for intramural and club sports.
  34. Oversee game operations for home club sport operations.
  35. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  36. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications

1. A minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution isrequired.
2. A minimum of (3) years experience coaching softball at the high school or collegiate level isrequired.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

  1. Experience as a Head coach.
  2. Experience/education in coordinating and/or marketing various sports activities.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in subject specialty.
  4. Skills in making effective public oral presentations to small groups and/or large audiences;
  5. Ability to coordinate and coach a successful collegiate softball team;
  6. Ability to lead motivate and supervise student athletes;
  7. Knowledge of appropriate safety rules and regulations;
  8. Knowledge of current coaching methods collegiate eligibility standards first aid and sports medicine practices;
  9. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with students families and college personnel;
  10. Ability to take direction and work independently without direct supervision;
  11. Ability to drive a personal vehicle state-owned vehicle or rented vehicle in the performance of assigned duties;
  12. Possess a valid drivers license and be insurable;
  13. Must represent the college in a professional manner at all times;
  14. Knowledge of FERPA;
  15. Ability to maintain confidentiality of office information;
  16. Conscientious- care about how work is done and wanting to do a good job;
  17. Initiative- respond to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work;
  18. A focus on detail;
  19. A focus on being friendly and patient in responding to customer needs;
  20. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that learning;
  21. Willingness to maintain flexibility in order to meet customer needs;

  24. Willingness to enthusiastically learn all/most aspects of the operation.
