Job Description

SALEM CITY SCHOOLS IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF SCHOOL OFFICE AIDE ATEAST SALEM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR.

SCHOOL OFFICE AIDE 4.70

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Performs responsible clerical work in a school office; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of an assistant principal and/or principal. This is a non-exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping reaching standing pushing pulling lifting and fingering; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Assisting the school secretary or assistant principal and principal in dispensing medication u under professional guidance preparing and maintaining files and records; serving as telephone operator and receptionist; assisting students and parents. The School Office Aide also..

  • Handles absentee and attendance calling;
  • Assists with registering students verifying data answering questions types schedules and prepares records;
  • Signs students in and out writes student passes;
  • Prepares attendance records and student information for data entry;
  • Assists with processing purchase orders;
  • Copies and distributes materials for teachers and faculty;
  • Dispenses medication under professional guidance;
  • Maintains medication records;
  • Processes and distributes mail;
  • Assists with maintenance of office filing systems;
  • Assists with collection and accounting for fees;
  • Assists with preparation of school newsletter;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Some knowledge of standard office practices procedures and equipment; some knowledge of school system routine and procedures; some knowledge of bookkeeping terminology methods and procedures; general knowledge of business English spelling and arithmetic; thorough knowledge of personnel and payroll procedures financial record keeping and banking procedures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to work under pressure; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to meet the public effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
