Reporting to Principal Mining Engineer the Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for supporting mining engineering activities for the Aktigiruq and Anarraaq Extension Project (AAEP) a mine life extension project for the Red Dog mine in Alaska. Currently in Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) this project has the potential to be one of the largest underground zinc operations in the world. The outstanding individual will be a key member of the North America Strategic Planning team supporting the AAEP team as the project moves into advanced study stages and begins underground exploration access activities. The position will protect Tecks reputation and financial interests through responsible application of engineering principles for underground mine design and mining project development working closely with site operational and functional teams Technical & Planning the Project Development Group and applicable Sustainability and External Affairs groups.
This position will support design and assessment of the underground mine by contributing technical and leadership expertise inclusive of but not limited to mine design ventilation production planning waste management and the development of operating and capital costs. While responsibilities will also include selecting and managing consultants to support related studies it is expected that the majority of strategic mine planning work is conducted by this individual as a Teck employee. The incumbent will be part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of geological metallurgical hydrogeological geotechnical and tailings specialists.
As part of the North America Strategic Planning team the Senior Mining Engineer will also support optimizing the integration of the existing Red Dog operation with this development project which may include contributing to other asset studies for the current Red Dog Operation. There will also be opportunities for coaching and mentoring of junior engineers and the identification of development opportunities for these individuals.
Being part of a multi-disciplinary team in Technical & Planning the Senior Mining Engineer will also support as required mine planning engineering and asset optimization at other Teck operations. The work schedule is flexible and will be developed with the supervisor; anticipated overall travel requirements are approximately 15-20%.
Candidates will be based out of our offices in Vancouver BC for Canadians or Anchorage Alaska for US residents. Relocation will be provided.
