Job Description

Job Title: InstructionalAide - Physical Education

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Department: Curriculum & Instruction

Reports To: Principal and Assigned Teacher(s)

Approved By: Board of Trustees

SUMMARY:

Assist teacher in the instruction of students on physical education activities. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Support

  1. Assist teacher in planning the physical education program to promote development of students physical attributes and social skills.
  2. Help with inventory care and maintenance of equipment.
  3. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  4. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

  1. Assist in teaching individual and team sports to students utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of physical capabilities of students.
  2. Organize lead instruct and referee indoor and outdoor games.
  3. Assist in instructing individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics gymnastics or corrective exercises determining type and level of difficulty of exercises corrections needed and prescribed movements.
  4. Assist in teaching and demonstrating use of gymnastic and training apparatus such as trampolines and
  5. Help supervise students throughout school day. This includes lunchroom bus and playground duty.
  6. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  3. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED

Completed two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or

Obtained an Associates Degree (or higher) or;

Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics (or as appropriate reading readiness writing readiness and mathematics readiness).

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Some experience working with children

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to administrators teachers peers students parents and the school community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to work well with children. Working knowledge of copier personal computer typewriter and audiovisual equipment. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand walk sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls and climb or balance. Moderate stooping bending kneeling crouching crawling and lifting is required of this employee. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and peripheral vision. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person.
