ENERGY - FERC - ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

Location: Washington DC

HYBRID

A prestigious AmLaw 100 firm is seeking a talented and driven Associate Attorney to join their Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) team operating within their cutting-edge Energy Regulatory Practice Group. This is a compelling opportunity for an attorney with electric regulatory experience to work at the forefront of federal energy law advising major industry clients on complex compliance and regulatory matters before FERC and related agencies. While the role is based in Washington DC highly qualified candidates in other markets may also be considered.

Candidate Profile

  • JD from a top-tier law school with a strong academic record.

  • Active Bar Admission in DC ingood standing.

  • 37 years of substantive experience in energy regulatory law with a focus on FERCs electric program.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of FERCs electric regulatory framework policies and procedures. Experience with matters such as transmission tariffs rate filings rulemakings and enforcement proceedings is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working closely with sophisticated clients and a strong commitment to responsiveness and practical legal solutions.

  • Team-oriented approach and the ability to contribute effectively in a high-performing collegial work environment.

  • Soft Skills: Strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Counseling: Advise clients on compliance with FERC regulations market rules and federal electric policies.

  • FERC Proceedings: Represent clients in contested and uncontested proceedings before FERC including rate cases certificate applications investigations and rulemaking comments.

  • Transactional Support: Provide regulatory due diligence and counsel in connection with mergers acquisitions and other energy-related transactions.

  • Legal Analysis & Drafting: Prepare briefs comments motions and memoranda involving complex regulatory and administrative law issues.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with firm partners clients and experts to shape regulatory strategy and respond to emerging policy developments.
