Job Title: Opto-Mechanical Engineer
Overview:
A high-tech manufacturer in the precision components industry is looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support the development improvement and scale-up of advanced assembly processes involving opto-mechanical systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of design and production and who can translate complex technical requirements into efficient repeatable manufacturing practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop validate and refine manufacturing processes for precision mechanical and optical assemblies.
- Partner closely with design teams to embed Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles from early design stages.
- Identify and resolve manufacturing issues related to alignment tolerance management bonding and material selection.
- Create detailed documentation including work instructions assembly processes and quality inspection criteria.
- Lead efforts in prototyping pilot runs and scaling processes to full production.
- Define tooling fixtures and test equipment needed to support assembly operations.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives targeting yield cycle time cost reduction and product quality.
- Work alongside Quality to ensure compliance with customer specifications and applicable standards.
- Support root cause investigations and implement effective corrective/preventive measures.
Additional Duties:
- Contribute to cross-functional projects or special assignments as needed.
- Assist with data tracking reporting and production support activities.
- Other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Optical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 3 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing or assembly engineering preferably involving precision systems or optical components.
- Strong grasp of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) and mechanical design fundamentals.
- Familiarity with optical alignment and bonding techniques is highly preferred.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent) and experience with ERP/PLM systems.
- Knowledge of materials adhesives and coatings used in precision assemblies.
- Strong analytical skills and a practical detail-oriented mindset.
- Experience working under quality management systems such as ISO 13485 or AS9100 is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering challenges.
