DCAS Facilities Management Mechanical Maintenance Operations/Energy (Preventative Maintenance) unit is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the mechanical equipment for all DCAS operated facilities. The unit works closely with Department of Energy management and procures funding for energy projects that are directly related to GHG reduction.
Electricians Helpers under direct supervision assist electricians to install repair replace and maintain electric systems appliances apparatus and equipment according to the provisions of the New York City Electrical Code and approved plans and specifications. They assist electricians in pulling wires and testing electrical systems; replacing defective light switches plugs and lighting fixtures; checking signal systems; keep electricians supplied with materials tools and supplies; cleaning work areas machines tools and equipment; performing routine machine operations; and may operate motor vehicles or equipment in the performance of assigned duties. All Electricians Helpers perform related work. Some of the physical activities performed by Electricians Helpers and environmental conditions experienced are: reading meters in dimly lit areas; climbing and descending ladders including working on bucket trucks or cherry pickers; working in areas of hot temperatures and poor ventilation including confined spaces requiring the wearing of a respirator; using both hands to work overhead; using hand held tools to saw conduit and cut wires; carrying tools materials and equipment up and down stairs; and distinguishing colors.

ELECTRICIANS HELPER - 91722
Qualifications :
1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electricians helper or apprentice electrician; or
2. At least one and one-half years of full-time satisfactory as an electricians helper or apprentice electrician plus relevant education or training in a trade school technical school or vocational high school approved by a states Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization to make up the equivalent of remaining experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year relevant education or training.
