Job Description

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for the procurement of over 35 million pounds of food annually. This role includes leading the Supply Chain department by developing and updating procedures that support the organizations acquisition of purchased and donated food from over 600 suppliers.

Among other responsibilities the Director of Supply Chain is primarily responsible for:

  • Directing the procurement of donated food valued at over $61 million annually
  • Managing a budget of $6 million for purchased food freight and VAP fees 
  • Developing and implementing strategic goals aligned with the organizations mission
  • Leading the department in donor engagement and vendor selection

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all job functions that may be required to be performed by this position.

Donor Engagement

    • Leads the department in implementation of the Donor Stewardship Program
    • Monitor developments and trends in donations and ensure Supply Chain is prepared to react appropriately
    • Directs goal setting for the department and identifies areas for improvement
    • Supervises recordkeeping and retention in Salesforce (CRM)

Strategic Purchasing

  • Evaluates and controls purchasing decisions to achieve organizations mission and stay within budget
  • Keeps Senior Leadership Team updated on important developments in commodity pricing and relevant supply chain shortages or delays
  • Acts as a focal point with the Grants and Finance teams for contractual and legal purposes

Analysis and Process Improvement

  • Plans and monitors activity of all incoming pounds using ERP and Jet reporting tools
  • Oversees KPIs for the department ensuring actuals meet goals monthly and annually
  • Updates SOPs to improve processes within department and cross functionally

OTHER

  • Acts as SB1383 Liaison with City County and State officials leveraging these relationships for capacity building and funding opportunities
  • Food Safety Committee Member
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as needed

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role includes the supervision of two teams comprised of 7 team members.

INTERACTION
The Director of Supply Chain leads two teams involved in onsite and offsite operations. The Director of Supply Chain will interact closely with the Senior Leadership Team members of the Warehouse Finance and Programs teams as well as external stakeholders including vendors food and financial donors.


Qualifications :

EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE

Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position.

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Excellent customer service and analytical skills
  • Five years working in a procurement sales or food system role with negotiations
  • Moderate to high level computer skills: internet search engines word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Experience with managing a team

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree with an emphasis on Business Management Supply Chain Management or Agricultural Business
  • Experience representing an organization
  • Experience using an inventory ERP system
  • Experience in planning
  • Experience with cGMP practices and Food Safety training

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong planning and forecasting skills; ability to analyze data; solutions orientated critical thinker
  • Leadership skills high standards and ethics
  • Knowledge of office operations and accounting and budgetary controls
  • Exceptional attention to detail and experience keeping accurate records on complex programs
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative and professional relationships

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California drivers license including continuous proof of a satisfactory driving record and personal vehicle insurance coverage and remain insurable under FSDs insurance carrier standards.
  • ServSafe Certification required. *

*This must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment; training will be provided.

PHYSICAL MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee will be asked to successfully perform to fulfill the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly expected to:

  • Work in an office adjacent to a warehouse setting with occasional travel to other locations in San Diego County.
  • Prioritizes and multi-task work and projects requiring good memory concentration and analytical thinking.
  • Occasionally it is required to perform the safe operation of office equipment and machines and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.
  • Perform work in an office and warehouse space housing warehouse operations which may occasionally create an exposure to dust and pollen.
  • The noise level in the work environment varies and can be considered moderate.

$90000 - $110000
