Job Description
We have an opening for an Academic Graduate Appointee to participate in a high-impact bioinformatics and protein design project supporting various Laboratory missions. As part of a multi-disciplinary team you will contribute to the design and analysis of high-throughput data to inform protein model development. You will actively support and participate in the development of custom computational pipelines and tools that support machine learning-based design of proteins. This position is in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division Advanced Biotechnologies Integration group.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
You will
- Develop custom bioinformatic pipelines.
- Develop and implement scripts for sequence and assay data analysis.
- Assemble high-quality training datasets for machine learning applications.
- Generate custom data visualizations.
- Assemble reports summarizing key findings.
- Present results to team members and collaborators.
- Document code analyses and findings.
- Contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- BS in Biology Chemistry Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with scripting in Python C R and/or Bash.
- Experience using version control systems such as Git.
- Familiarity with high-performance computing environments.
- Experience with workflow management tools (e.g. Nextflow).
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively communicate technical information.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work in a collaborative research environment and interact with a diverse set of team members.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with machine learning.
- Exposure to biological laboratory methods and techniques.

Per the Department of Energy (DOE) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
