Job Description: Alumni Communications Coordinator

Position Overview:

The Office of Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving at Iona University is seeking a highly motivated and creative Alumni Communications Coordinator to join our team. This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Annual Giving & Communications and plays a vital role in supporting the Office of Alumni Engagement which is part of the Division of Advancement & External Affairs. As a key member of the team you will assist in the development and implementation of digital content alumni communications and engagement initiatives to strengthen the bond between Iona University and its 50000 alumni network. The Alumni Communications Coordinator will support various programs events and digital outreach efforts designed to connect alumni enhance fundraising initiatives and elevate the overall alumni experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation & Digital Communications:
    • Develop engaging digital content to support Alumni Engagement initiatives using tools such as Canva Giphy and Gipper.
    • Assist in the creation of social media graphics email visuals and all promotional materials.
    • Implement and execute a strategic social media plan to effectively engage alumni and boost participation.
  2. Photo & Media Management:
    • Collect organize and manage photo and video content for alumni-related projects events websites and social media channels.
    • Utilize photo sharing tools such as SmugMug PhotoShelter and Dropbox to store and share media.
  3. Alumni Profiles & Copywriting:
    • Draft and edit compelling alumni profiles based on submissions research and interviews to highlight alumni achievements and contributions.
    • Assist in drafting editing and proofreading content for email communications social media posts and magazine publications.
  4. Competitive Research & Benchmarking:
    • Conduct research on peer institutions Giving Days social media strategies and website content.
    • Provide insights and actionable recommendations to improve alumni engagement efforts including potential new strategies or best practices.
  5. Administrative & Event Support:
    • Assist in the development planning and execution of regional alumni events to strengthen connections among alumni throughout the country and foster a sense of community.
    • Manage all outreach efforts to engage alumni in various regions ensuring events are effectively promoted and executed.
  6. Videography:
    • Oversee logistics and production of video content related to Advancement initiatives including Gaels Giving Day Alumni Awards and alumni testimonials.
    • Collaborate with team members to create impactful video storytelling that highlights Iona alumni and supports engagement efforts.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications Marketing Public Relations or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong proficiency in digital content creation tools such as Canva Giphy and Gipper.
  • Excellent writing editing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms and understanding of trends in digital engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of photo and video management tools (e.g. SmugMug PhotoShelter Dropbox) is preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
