The Executive Director of Student Health and Wellness is responsible for the following:
Estimated 70% of Effort: The professional actively practices student healthcare duties in the Student Health Center. This role is essential to helping students achieve and maintain sufficient physical health and wellness so they can successfully fulfill their academic goals.
Estimated 20% of Effort: Broad oversight and vision for departments within the Student Health and Wellness subdivision of the Division of Student Affairs.
Estimated 10% of Effort: This position is also deemed to be the liaison between the university and public health agencies providing knowledge and expertise that contribute to the health and safety of the student body.
More descriptively the professional will:
- Provide leadership vision and oversight of the units within the Student Health and Wellness subdivision within the Division of Student Affairs (currently Student Health Services Counseling Services Accessibility Services Recreation and Wellness Programs)
- Provide acute medical care and treatment for students
- When necessary provide emergency and on-going medical treatment for students
- Provide student referrals to off-campus medical services when necessary
- Maintain the proper collection evaluation utilization and maintenance of all medical records on students currently enrolled
- Ensure that all aspects of student health services adhere to established standards laws and regulations including HIPAA and nursing practice standards
- Ensure quality of care and providing guidance to clinical staff
- Coordinate with appropriate authorities on public health issues including communicable diseases and developing institutional responses
- Maintain reporting requirements to the State of Louisiana
- Remain abreast of local state and federal regulations related to public health and medical care compliance
- Directly supervise all professionals and student staff within the Student Health Services department
- Directly supervise directors of all units within the Student Health and Wellness subdivision and indirectly supervises all employees under each directors purview.
- Plan implement and evaluate projects and services related to student health and wellness throughout the university
- Plan and implement educational programs to foster awareness and student success related to healthcare for faculty staff and students
- Provide internal professional development activities and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of health programs and services
- Determine ways to develop and infuse health related issues into classroom management practices
- Provide student referrals to other support services on and off campus when necessary
- Develop and leads initiatives and projects that advance awareness of public health across the institution and community
- Develop annual objectives and benchmarks for the Student Health Services department which supports the universitys mission and Division of Student Affairs Strategic Plan
- Provide intervention support to faculty and staff who experience student encounters requiring medical knowledge and expertise
- Seek for and develop partnerships with community agencies grant-funded initiatives and other third-party support to enhance student health and wellness efforts at McNeese
- Develop administer and monitor the department budget and allocate resources effectively
- Produce data reports connected to student success and departmental impact
- Partner with other departments to host outreach programs
- Network with counterparts in higher education to remain abreast of recent trends and best practices that can support Student Health Services
- Maintain competencies and licensure through external and self-directed professional development
- Represents the Student Health Services department at internal and external campus outreach programs and events
- Serve on campus committees as assigned
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or higher authority
Required/Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Advanced degree
- Active Nurse Practitioner Family Nurse Practitioner or other medical practitioner credential beneficial to the Student Health Services operations
- CPR certificate issued by an authorized agency
- Ability to evaluate and treat student health conditions as a licensed provider
- At least seven years of related professional experience
- Ability to provide leadership and vision to other professionals
- Previous experience working in clinical setting
- Significant budget management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of college state and federal standards and requirements governing health services
- Knowledge of public health agencies and local health care resources
- Previous supervision experience of a large group of individuals or multiple work units
- Previous experience coordinating programs and activities for small and large groups
- Ability to solve problems and develop creative solutions when barriers are present
- Ability to work evenings nights and weekends for special events with prior notice
- Understanding of using computer software needed to complete job duties such as a medical records system Microsoft Office 365 Banner (or other) student information system case management software and a campus portal platform
- Evidence of an energetic student-centered approach to completion of work duties and program development
Preferred:
- Doctorate-level degree from an accredited institution
- Ten years or more of related experience
- Access to a collaborating physician
- Experience speaking to small and large groups
- Experience formulating program assessments and generating data/action reports based on findings
