Job Description

Job Summary:

The Certified Storage Tank Inspector supports inspection and compliance operations for storage tank systems. This role focuses on evaluating the safety structural integrity and regulatory compliance of aboveground and/or underground tanks for federal clients. Responsibilities include conducting field inspections performing non-destructive testing identifying corrosion or damage and preparing detailed reports aligned with industry standards such as API 653 and STI SP001.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Scheduling: Coordinates access and inspection timing with Chloetas client.

  • Ensures the AST is ready for inspection including coordination for pump-out or temporary shut-down if necessary.

  • Conducts inspections and integrity tests in accordance with STI SP001 standards including both external and internal assessments.

  • Diagnoses issues such as vacuum gauge malfunction vacuum loss in interstitial space or other contributing components.

  • Inspects tank components such as primary and secondary tanks tank supports anchors and foundation gauges and appurtenances. normal and emergency vents spill control systems.

  • Utilizes appropriate leak testing methods such as vacuum testing and pressure testing.

  • Records all conditions and non-compliance issues observed during inspections and tests.

  • Prepares a written report detailing inspection findings results of testing and recommendations for repairs or replacement of malfunctioning components.

  • Conducts a follow-up meeting with stakeholders to present final report and answer questions.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Familiarity with federal state and STI SP001 inspection standards and environmental regulations.

  • Ability to identify document and report compliance issues and physical conditions affecting tank integrity.

  • Ability to operate testing equipment and interpret test results accurately.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with stakeholders and preparing detailed reports.

  • Capability to assess complex system issues and recommend corrective action.

  • Strong time management and scheduling skills to coordinate site logistics and deliverables.

  • Comfortable working on-site in varying conditions and adapting to client needs.

Education and Experience

  • Required: Current certification as a Steel Tank Institute (STI) SP001 Certified AST Inspector. The successful candidate will be certified through the Steel Tank Institute (STI) as an SP001 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector.

  • Required: Associates with at least three (3) years of relevant experience

  • Required: Must be eligible to obtain access to U.S. Military Installations

  • Preferred: Bachelors with five (5) years of relevant experience

  • Preferred: Additional certifications as required by the State of Kansas or local regulatory agencies.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to conduct field inspections that require standing walking climbing ladders and entering confined spaces as necessary.

  • Ability to lift carry or move up to 30 lbs of equipment or inspection tools.

  • This role routinely involves exposure to outdoor conditions and industrial environments.
