Summary Statement
Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive employees can complete job duties of a similar kind not specifically listed.
- Performs routine maintenance of lawn flowers shrubs and trees involving planting fertilizing transplanting irrigating weeding mulching pruning mowing edging and trimming.
- Applies pesticides and herbicides safely and responsibly when needed in accordance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
- Performs seasonal care such as planting in the spring or leaf removal in the fall.
- Maintains driveways steps and walkways by removing snow or ice trash and debris and may assist in grading and repair.
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and hand tools including mowers tractors saws sprayers blowers edgers grass shears and trimmers.
- Collaborates with maintenance team members on larger projects.
- Assists in the preparation and cleanup for outdoor events.
- May perform minor repairs on outdoor structures such as fences gates and walkways and assist trades personnel in painting and other minor repairs as required.
- Communicates and interacts effectively with people across cultures ranges of ability genders ethnicities ages and races.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Groundskeeper I
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Knowledge of operating groundskeeping or landscaping equipment such as mowers tractors saws sprayers pruners edgers grass shears and trimmers.
Conditions of Hire

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicableterms and conditions of employment in accordance with Title 29 Chapter 59 and Title 19 Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
