Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.

The Intern Structural Engineer will provide support to ships with ongoing Design and or going through production support. The intern will perform structural Calculations based on Classification Society rules or basic Engineering Judgement using first principal engineering Calculation or advanced Finite Element analysis Software. The intern will also create sketches and develop drawings under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer. Additional duties will be assigned as needed.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.

What youll do

  • Focused on ship design and construction
  • Support providing calculation Sketches and Drawings for Ship global Structures Foundations and using Classification Rules.
  • Perform studies and data collection for Structural Engineering when needed.
  • Create standard calculation guidelines using Class Rules when needed.
  • Work directly under professional Engineer and support with daily assignment
  • Other duties as assigned

What youll bring

  • 2nd year and above year Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture Co-op Student
  • Good understanding of basic Strength Calculation using First principle or Finite Element Analysis ( 2D or 3D)
  • Excellent problem solving & communication skills (written & spoken) are a must
  • Ability to work cross functionally as part of a team with minimal direction
  • Currently enrolled in Mechanical or Naval Architecture program
  • Motivated with creative energy and initiative
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationship with other Engineering disciplines
  • Being persistent and perseverance
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • good excellent presentation organization and problem-solving skills
  • PC proficiency required. Solid understanding of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel Outlook Word PowerPoint) Autocad. FEA software is an asset.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday September 8th 2025.

End Date of Internship: Friday December 19th 2025 (4-Months).
