    Job Summary:
    The IT Manager is responsible for the proper operation of all information technology and related equipment and software at the Academy and for answering technology questions.

    Description of Duties:

    Academy Software Systems (Assists Director of IT)
    • Install and maintain Academy software systems
    • Support and train end-users
    • Ensure data is entered correctly
    • Update users on relevant changes to the system
    • Run specific queries that are not available in standard reports
    • Monitor the systems to ensure they are running smoothly and efficiently

    Hardware and Software Support (Assists Director of IT)
    • Set up and maintain all IT equipment and software including computer lab Academy local area network (LAN) and personal computers
    • Maintain accurate inventory of the Academys information technology equipment
    • Conduct regular audits of the Academys information technology equipment
    • Respond in a timely fashion to users regarding information technology problems
    • Complete periodic checks on system usage to ensure smooth and efficient operation

    Security and Data Backup (Assists Director of IT)
    • Maintain users security profiles and ensure security procedures are strictly implemented
    • Active directory will be set up maintained and monitored for all users of the Academy including students staff and administration
    • Firewall configuration will be monitored and updated to ensure security from outside sources to the internal LAN
    • Folder and file permissions will be created and maintained for all users authenticating to the server
    • Implement Academy backup procedures and ensure their integrity
    • A tape backup should be maintained nightly with a rotation of tapes on a weekly basis archive tapes should be kept (at least one per term)
    • Extra provisions need to be made to ensure the Oracle databases PIW database and library databases are backed up per their proprietary utilities prior to backing up on tape
    • Ensure security of network network applications and data
    • All PCs (with the possible exception of laptops) will authenticate to the Academy domain by unique users with appropriate permissions on the domain as per their role in the Academy
    • Install and maintain virus protection on all PCs on LAN
    • All PCs in the Academy should have anti-virus software installed that is auto-updating virus definitions on a daily basis
    • Periodic checks should be made to ensure both the software is running and updating on all personal computers
    • The server should also incorporate anti-virus software and be updated daily the IT Manager will ensure it is configured appropriately so as not to interrupt client/server operation

    Networking (Assists Director of IT)
    • Maintain LAN connections to personal computers
    • Ensure that hubs switches routers and patch panels are operational and configured correctly in secure locations
    • Maintain LAN connectivity to Internet
    • Ensure Firebox and external router are operational and firewall component services are configured to properly allow network traffic to flow in and out while maintaining proper stoppage to insecure or unsuitable transmissions
    • Maintain users profiles and access rights
    • Keep appropriate user permissions access rights and group permissions updated and audited to ensure security on the domain and limit user accessibility to critical components of the PCs and servers

    Administrative Issues
    • Management reporting to Director of IT
    • Provide hardware and software support by setting up and maintaining all computer related equipment
    • Install software on all computers and provide end-user support
    • Troubleshoot users problems and respond to problems in a timely fashion
    • Install repair upgrade or uninstall all applications deemed necessary
    • Maintain inventory of all IT and other school equipment as requested.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelors degree in computer science or computer engineering or equivalent
    • Experience working in a school setting with technology
    • Knowledge of technology and software programs
    • Criminal records clearance

    Physical Demands & Work Environment
    In order to successfully perform the essential duties of this job the employee would ideally be able to meet the following physical demands:
    • Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
    • Stand and walk frequently.
    • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year.
    • Withstand a moderate noise level.
