Job Description

Position Summary

The Head Baseball Coach/Freshman Seminar Advisor is responsible for providing training direction encouragement motivation and advice to prepare athletes for games and competitive events adhering to the general employee guidelines as specified by the Personnel handbook the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Responsible for assisting students with program planning transfer information course selections and registration. Teach and orient students to the College.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E1 Grade 1: $56139 - $73632

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the baseball program which includes developing and maintaining a competitive baseball program scheduling games travel arrangements summer camps budgeting preparation of baseball facility for competition recruiting monitoring player academic responsibilities and any other duties assigned relating to the baseball program.
  2. Supervise and discipline players both on and off the field.
  3. Hire and supervise assistant coaches during practice and the games.
  4. Recruit the best possible student athletes to Calhoun with preference given to North Alabama student-athletes.
  5. Report all relevant activities and actions to the athletic director Vice President of Student Services and the President.
  6. Follow the proper chain of command with any relevant issues in the college.
  7. Promote positive and productive relationships with all faculty and staff at the College service area businesses industries and agencies.
  8. Supervise and maintain the Calhoun baseball facility and any other facility that is used by the baseball team.
  9. Organize all practice and game plans for the players assistant coaches and managers to follow.
  10. Consistently monitor baseball equipment to ensure that it is properly used.
  11. Demand proper conduct of the student athletes towards all members of the college and in the community.
  12. Assist the assigned athletic trainer.
  13. Coordinate the indoor practice schedule and facility use with the softball coach and proper supervisors.
  14. Coordinate game concessions and participate in fundraising activities for the athletic department.
  15. Conduct fundraising activities for the baseball program.
  16. Cooperate with the Office of Public Relations and local media in promoting Calhoun College.
  17. Abide by eligibility requirements established by Calhoun Community College ACCC and the NJCAA.
  18. Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
  19. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  20. Coordinate and enforce player study hall with the S.T.A.R.S Institute.
  21. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog Personnel Handbook and State Board Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
  22. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses industries and agencies for the purpose of fundraising.
  23. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  24. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  25. Plan ORI programs for the purpose of orienting new students to college.
  26. Counsel/advise all assigned students through personal appointments telephone conversations and/or written correspondence (including but not limited to e-mail).
  27. Teach orientation classes each semester to incoming freshmen.
  28. Plan and implement effective orientation strategies.
  29. Review the Calhoun Catalog annually to become familiar with changes affecting prospective and current student enrollments.
  30. Maintain knowledge of financial aid opportunities for prospective and current students.
  31. Maintain a general knowledge of other college policies and procedures including academic support and student activities.
  32. Coordinate orientation curriculum to encourage student persistence.
  33. Serve as an advising resource during registration periods.
  34. Attend recruiting programs as requested for the purpose of recruiting prospective student populations.
  35. Assist with visits to high school honors programs and represent the college at functions to award scholarships as needed.
  36. Identify ways to measure the effectiveness of orientation events and establish a system of tracking outcomes.
  37. Maintain and update orientation activities on a college-wide calendar and communicate this information to the Public Relations Office.
  38. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. A minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution isrequired.
2. A minimum of (3) years experience coaching baseball at the high school or collegiate level isrequired.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

  1. Experience as a Head coach.
  2. CPR Certification.
  3. Skills in making effective public oral presentations to small groups and/or large audiences.
  4. Skills in advising guiding or counseling individuals and/or groups.
  5. Documented experience in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom including word processing spreadsheet database and presentation software (e.g. Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel BlackBoard Canvas etc )
  6. Knowledge of the Calhoun Community College Catalog admissions policies and procedures general financial aid information and college departments.
  7. Ability to coordinate and coach a successful collegiate baseball team.
  8. Ability to lead motivate and supervise student athletes.
  9. Knowledge of appropriate safety rules and regulations.
  10. Knowledge of current coaching methods collegiate eligibility standards first aid and sports medicine practices.
  11. Knowledge of orientation and counseling strategies.
  12. Ability to plan organize promote and execute student orientation-related activities.
  13. Ability to use or learn to use network software and university articulation software (STARS) on a PC.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with students families and college personnel.
  15. Ability to take direction and work independently without direct supervision.
  16. Ability to drive a personal vehicle state-owned vehicle or rented vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
  17. Possess a valid drivers license and be insurable.
  18. Must be sensitive to the importance of treating all admission/financial aid information of applicants with the utmost confidentiality.
  19. Must represent the college in a professional manner at all times.
  20. Knowledge of FERPA.
  21. Ability to maintain confidentiality of office information.
  22. Conscientious- care about how work is done and wanting to do a good job.
  23. Initiative- respond to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work.
  24. A focus on detail.
  25. A focus on being friendly and patient in responding to customer needs.
