The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Fish and Game Coordinator (Federal Subsistence Liaison) located in Anchorage!

What you will be doing:
This position serves as a technical expert and federal subsistence liaison program manager for the Department. The focus of this program is to assure continued states rights to manage fish and game resources which is a critical part of the departments overall mission.

The position serves as the central point from which all information affecting the Divisions of Wildlife Conservation Subsistence Sport Fish and Commercial Fisheries regarding the federal subsistence regulatory process is exchanged and policy issues are addressed. It requires technical expertise in wildlife and fisheries biology and management as well as an adequate understanding of the federal regulatory process. Specifically this position coordinates the both the information received and the requests we receive to appropriate staff within the department; analyzes the implications of this information; oversees the development of a response; implements the response; and develops news releases when appropriate. This may include the development of formal written comments or position papers compiling technical information the development of strategy recommendations for consideration by Division Directors Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner. The incumbent may provide oral testimony and deliberation with Regional Advisory Councils and the Federal Subsistence Board. This position is responsible for housing the correspondence and documents related to the federal subsistence management program to include regulatory cycles requests for reconsideration special actions related protocols in the ADF&G Federal Subsistence Program Share Point site.

The working environment you can expect:
The position may be in Juneau or Anchorage. The position will have immediate access to and be in close contact with the Director and other members of the senior leadership team and the department Deputy Commissioner. It will work in a collaborative environment with statewide regional and area staff located throughout the state.

Who we are looking for:
  1. Knowledge and experience with Alaskas fish and/or wildlife and the laws pertaining to them.
  2. Knowledge of ANILCA specifically Title 8 and application to State of Alaska fish and wildlife management.
  3. Experience with regulatory boards and developing fish and/or wildlife regulations and policy.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively on complex issues with diverse groups of varying opinions while building and maintaining effective relationships.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication including experience editing documents giving public presentations and explaining controversial wildlife laws regulations and policies.

Special Note:

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelors degree from an accredited college in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management;
AND
Seven years of professional experience as a fisheries wildlife or habitat biologist that includes at least one year as a program manager or technical expert or two years at an advanced professional level. The program manager or technical expert experience is met by service as a Fisheries Biologist 4 Wildlife Biologist 4 or Habitat Biologist 4 and the advanced professional biologist experience is met by service as a Fisheries Biologist 3 Wildlife Biologist 3 or Habitat Biologist 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitutions:
A bachelors degree from an accredited college that includes or is supplemented by the following credit hours will substitute for the degree in a specific field:
at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management (excluding courses that focus on agricultural husbandry techniques human population dynamics or the design and manipulation of landscapes) of which 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) are upper division courses; and
at least 12 semester hours (16 quarter hours) in any combination of two or more of the following: chemistry physics mathematics statistics geology hydrology or GIS.

A masters degree in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management will substitute for one year of the required professional experience. There is no substitute for the requirement for specific experience as a program manager or technical expert or at an advanced professional level.

A doctorate in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management will substitute for three years of the required professional experience. There is no substitute for the requirement for specific experience as a program manager or technical expert or at an advanced professional level.

Special Note:
Upper division courses means courses that are specialized in-depth and advanced. Such courses emphasize problem-solving analytical thinking skills and theoretical applications with depth and rigor in a disciplines theories and methods; specialization in a particular field or profession; refinement of general education; and/or development of specific intellectual and professional skills. Upper division courses are commonly identified in college catalogs as 300 level and higher.

A misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is an offense that is (1) a misdemeanor under Federal or state law; and (2) has as an element the use or attempted use of physical force or the threatened use of a deadly weapon committed by a current or former spouse parent or guardian of the victim by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse parent or guardian or by a person similarly situated to a spouse parent or guardian of the victim.
