The Growing Place Position Description

Position: Interim Campus Director

Location: Growing Place

Status: Full-time Exempt

Reports to: Executive Director



Description of the Position

The Interim Campus Director leads and collaborates with children staff families and the broader community to carry out the values and mission of the Growing Place (GP). The Campus Director directs manages monitors and controls all campus operations. The Interim Campus Director hires and retains teachers and staff and oversees the enrollment process and campus facilities. The candidate will work closely with teachers and the Educational Coordinating Team (ECT) to guide the curriculum. The Campus Director holds a strong and clear vision of the organizations purpose statement and how to actualize the schools goals and objectives.


Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Promote Effective Teaching and Learning

  • Collaborate with staff to implement the curriculum designed by ECT
  • Work to realize the vision and direction of the ED and Director of Pedagogy
  • Ensure that children are given opportunities to thrive and meet their full potential
  • Model respectful trusting and positive relationships with all children

Work with Families

  • Welcome families and create relationships to cultivate a sense of belonging
  • Orient new families to the program on philosophy policies and practices
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and conferences
  • Effectively communicate with families about the life of the school
  • Initiate sensitive conversations with families and gather resources if necessary (developmental delays assessments concerning behaviors etc.)
  • Act as the liaison between the family staff and specialists (special education and medical) to coordinate/integrate services to support the success of the child

Work with Teachers and Staff

  • Cultivate a positive healthy and professional work environment
  • Assure all staff have the skills and opportunities to create partnerships with families
  • Cultivate a culture of curiosity reflection critical thinking professionalism and feedback
  • Interview hire retain and terminate staff as necessary
  • Design and implement continuous performance management for staff
  • Ensure that staff understand and implement the GP values policies and practices
  • Design staff daily schedules and teaching teams
  • Collaborate with Directors to ensure administrative alignment across campuses
  • Determine particular campus expression of shared values
  • Effectively lead and facilitate meetings
  • Onboard new staff to GP
  • In collaboration with the pedagogista design and lead professional development
  • Support with mediation of conflicts among the staff

Work with Community

  • Develop a working partnership with community partners (Lab School/SMC Marine Park/City of SM Ocean Park/SMMUSD)
  • Ensure opportunities for all adult learners to engage in the learning at GP
  • Develop and sustain existing networks with other relevant organizations and schools
  • Work with groups that support additional services for families
  • Demonstrate an inclusive and welcoming practice for all visitors
  • Cultivate a positive and professional relationship with the Board of Directors
  • Attend and participate in professional development relevant to furthering the organizations mission and presence

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Support fundraising initiatives
  • Cultivate a spirit of philanthropy with parents community and foundations
  • Steward resources to ensure a healthy overall fiscal budget
  • Follow the fiscal policies and procedures handbook
  • Responsible for reports due to the community partners

Enrollment and Marketing

  • Implement policies of admissions to meet enrollment goals
  • Promote employment opportunities and ensure adequate staffing
  • Conduct tours of the center for prospective parents educators and visitors
  • Ensure understanding of the mission values and practices of GP

Operations and Business

  • Ensure compliance with standards and requirements per California Department of Social Services Child Care Licensing
  • Ensure the center meets partner/grant agreements and NAEYC accreditation standards
  • Report staff schedules attendance HR information related in Paylocity and with Business Manager
  • Cultivate positive partnerships to promote good business practices

Health and Safety

  • Provide ongoing training and professional development for staff on health and safety
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency situations
  • Conduct regular drills and exercises to practice emergency preparedness plans
  • Oversee the maintenance of health and safety-related documentation
  • Maintain a secure environment through security protocols and protocols

Campus Facilities

  • Plan and ensure the campus promotes teaching learning beauty and safety
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of the facility

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Office-based work environment with occasional meetings or events held off-site
  • Standing and sitting in environments designed for children ages 3 months to 6 years
  • Requires the ability to move rapidly from a sitting to a standing position and to get down and up off the ground
  • Ability to push pull or lift 50lbs
  • Requires working in all weather conditions
  • Requires the ability to respond quickly to auditory and visual cues



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Bachelors Degree in a related field
  • Successful completion (B or better) in Adult Supervision course 3 credits
  • Experience in leadership administration supervision and mentorship
  • Two (2) years of experience working with children ages 3 months-6 years old in a licensed quality child care program a NAEYC accredited child care center preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development and Reggio Approach
  • Demonstrates professionalism in attire attitude punctuality and attendance
  • Meet the requirements of the CA Department of Social Services

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Child Development Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of early childhood development and implementation of developmentally appropriate programs and activities
  • Staff Management: Experience in recruiting hiring training and supervising staff providing support and guidance
  • Family Engagement: Ability to build relationships including effective communication and collaboration; engage families in ways that promote values of the program
  • Organizational Skills: Organizational and time-management skills to effectively manage multiple responsibilities prioritize tasks and ensure smooth operations
  • Problem-Solving: Aptitude for identifying challenges and implementing solutions in various aspects of center including programmatic operational and interpersonal issues
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant regulations licensing requirements accreditation standards and the ability to ensure compliance
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse cultures backgrounds and perspectives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment
  • Community Engagement: Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with community partners stakeholders and local organizations
  • Financial Management: Basic understanding of budgeting finance management and resource allocation
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with technology tools and software commonly used in school management such as databases communication platforms and administrative systems
