PRESCHOOL LEADER
at St. Peters Elementary School in Unity SK.

Required Qualifications
- A Grade 12 diploma from a provincially recognized institution is required.
- Educational Assistant course (or equivalent) is required.
- Preference for 2 years of related experience or experience working with children ages Kindergarten to Grade 12 in extra-curricular activities.
- Valid Drivers License and appropriately insured dependable vehicle as required.
- Proficient with technology.
- Familiarity with technical aids.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision demonstrating sound judgment and decision making skills to ensure quality of work meets expected standards.
- All staff are expected to respect the confidential nature of their position by avoiding discussion about any topics that are not formally communicated to the public by the administration of the school or the school division. Breaching confidentiality is a serious violation of acceptable conduct and is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
- Staff receive general supervision and are responsible to provide quality work to meet expectations outlined within the job description. The effectiveness of this position is dependent upon the efficient accurate and timely relay of information.
Duties and Responsibilities
Professional Behaviour

- Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to a Catholic educational institution that provides services to children.
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills interact empathetically and tactfully with staff students parents and the public in a manner that is respectful of Catholic morals and values.
- Promote an atmosphere of respect for children and adults.
Assisting Students
- Plan and prepare lessons and sensory learning stations for students. Supervise and assist student learning activities focused on identified outcomes.
- Plan and direct daily jobs for Preschool Educational Assistant.
- Where appropriate assist student(s) in the development of problem solving socialization and peer interaction skills.
- Provide academic supports as directed by the principal.
- Provide personal assistance to student(s) with physical disabilities which may include toileting feeding grooming dressing lifting stretching etc.
- Operate adjust and assist with specialized equipment (ex. wheelchairs life skills equipment speech computer etc.).
- Assist student(s) with gross motor skill programs and activities as outlined in the student(s)s Inclusion and Intervention Plans as required.
- Provide medical care (ex. administering medication monitoring seizure severity record keeping etc.) as required.
- Assist in the development of an Inclusion and Intervention Plan if requested.
- Implement behavior modification techniques and assist with general classroom management in accordance with school guidelines.
- Assess student progress by compiling information regarding academic progress behavior and communication etc. and recording individual progress (ex. journals and observation sheets) as required.
- Report student progress to families and outside agencies (if required).
- Maintain school/home communication.
- Create and carry out family engagement days.
- Order and purchase appropriate learning resources equipment and supplies as approved.
