Description / Position Overview
- Sales Tax Auditor IAbout the Job:In this position you will perform complex sales and use tax audits to ensure businesses operating within the City are in compliance with City Tax Code. You will work directly with businesses to analyze their financial records and identify discrepancies or areas of non-compliance. To perform this role you will need a strong understanding of City Tax Code as well as relevant state statute and court cases related to the administration and enforcement of sales and use tax.
Job Type:Full-time
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm

As a Sales Tax Auditor I you will:
- Perform complex sales and use tax audits from a wide variety of industries to assure compliance with City Tax Code
- Examine financial records prepare audit workpapers write audit reports and provide recommendations to businesses ensuring future compliance
- Review and process third-party contract audits tax refund requests voluntary tax disclosures exemptions and other projects as assigned
- Issue audit findings to businesses providing clear communication of issues and recommendations for remediation
- Writes audit findings and conclusion summaries
- Respond to taxpayer inquiries; conduct timely follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction
- Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles in the analysis of taxpayer records
- Determine tax liabilities from taxpayer records or other available information; estimates liabilities when records are unavailable

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced accounting Enterprise Resource Planning systems and financial auditing processes
- Federal state and local laws and tax policies as related to sales and use tax
- Advanced Excel and data analytics techniques
- Coordinate the collection evaluation and interpretation of information and data
- Communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study
- One year of full-time experience in auditing accounting tax collection or a related field
