Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 2: Bachelors Degree in computer science software engineering engineering information technology or related field and 2 years of relevant/direct professional experience.
  • Level 3: Bachelors Degree in computer science software engineering engineering information technology or related field and 5 years of relevant/direct professional experience.
  • May accept experience in lieu of education commensurate with level (Level 2 requires 8 years of relevant/direct professional experience in place of degree; Level 3 requires 11 years of relevant/direct professionalexperience) in place of degree.
  • Experience working with maintaining installing and upgrading computer hardware and software.
  • Experience maintaining windows server environments.
  • Specialized experience in scripting and automation.
  • Service management experience with ITIL framework.
  • Experience maintaining and developing PowerShell scripts.
  • Experience in system hardening (i.e. STIGS CIS).
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container management systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Experience maintaining and developing ServiceNow workflows.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($65064 - $133416) / Level 3 ($77628 - $159228). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit stoop kneel bend use hands to handle materials manipulate tools keyboard and type reach with hands and arms and operate job related equipment. Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Operating Systems Analyst to work in our System Administration department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research and Education Campus (REC) in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off.

You will prepare technical specifications and performance criteria for hardware and software purchases and upgrades. Oversee planning for and installation of hardware. Test and place hardware into production. Select plan test and install operating systems and related support software. You will report to the System Administration Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare technical specifications and performance criteria for hardware and software purchases and upgrades.
  • Facilitate selection planning testing and installation of operating systems and related support software (e.g. monitoring database communications etc.).
  • Makes recommendations for the procurement of server technology related equipment/systems hardware and software and supporting vendor contracts.
  • Develop and review operating procedures and train staff on their use.
  • Performs monitoring and capacity planning for the hardware and software.
  • Perform troubleshooting and consultation for users. Provide problem identification and resolution (including documentation) coordinating these activities with management vendors and DOE.
  • Keep management informed of new features/functions of hardware/software and how they can be used to support work objectives.
  • Provide education to other organizations on selected hardware/software operations.
  • Design implement and execute a disaster recovery plan.
  • Ensure work assignment purview is maintained in compliance with federal regulations DOE orders and company procedures.
  • Provide highly technical expertise to formulate strategies to identify new and inventive ways of using technology to enhance and streamline work in the area of assignment.
  • May design and maintain a 5-year plan for technology initiatives and assist with the forecasting of future INL budget needs.
