**INTERNAL JOB POSTING**

SUMMARY:

As the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for the National Electrical Code leads the Electrical Safety Division of the Jackson Hole Fire/EMS in the enforcement of National Electrical Code; reviews plans and technical drawings inspects residential and commercial work sites and verifies compliance to codes regulations ordinances and the National Electrical Code.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans organizes coordinates and supervises the work of the Electrical Inspectors including customer service plan review permit issuance building and stand-alone electrical installation inspections and code enforcement; provides direction and guidance in technical processes and procedures; and coordinates inspection work with other departments agencies and utility providers.
  • Manages and trains staff; writes performance evaluations; establishes work and vacation schedules; assigns and coordinates territories tasks and projects; and reviews staff work to ensure effective enforcement of building safety standards through electrical code compliance state statutes and County and regional ordinances and standards.
  • Helps to protect the lives and property of County residents through electrical inspections and assistance with fire investigations of electrical origin.
  • Inspects commercial and residential buildings and structures in all stages of construction alteration and repair; ensures construction activities are in compliance with current adopted National Electrical Codes state statutes ordinances and regulations; approves work which is in compliance and requires corrections to be made when deficiencies are discovered; and provides follow up to ensure corrections are made.
  • Investigates electrical safety complaints; maintains communications with developers and builders on commercial and residential electrical inspection projects.
  • Interprets electrical codes; recommends code adoption to Town and County regulations to meet minimum state requirements and provides recommendations to local ordinances to enhance building safety.
  • Analyzes installation and inspection practices and recommends improvements; maintains updates and ensures the accuracy of inspection records project documentation and project files.
  • Prepares written reports and issues technical enforcement documents; answers technical questions from contractors; tracks inspection types and numbers on an annual basis for planning purposes.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3 years of experience at a senior level in department



Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Drivers License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Master Electrician certifications from the Wyoming Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety.
  • Incumbents may be required to obtain additional technical certifications.

Required Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of supervision.
  • County policies and procedures and state and federal laws and regulations governing building and safety codes.
  • Methods and techniques of inspecting a variety of plans buildings and technical documents.
  • Electrical installation methods materials and design standards.
  • Building Code National Electric Code National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.



Required Skills in:

  • Applying technical knowledge of building trades work and using sound inspection methods to determine workmanship and materials quality and detect deviations from plans specifications and standard installation practices.
  • Interpreting and applying electrical installation standards and procedures applicable federal rules and regulations and City/County policies and procedures.
  • Detecting deviations from plans regulations and standard construction practices.
  • Providing advice and consultation on electrical installation methods and requirements.
  • Setting priorities and supervising the work of others.
  • Operating and maintaining computer and communications equipment.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.



Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with regular trips to building sites.
