Job Description

  • Help young Australians to improve their long-term educational outcomes
  • Temporary full-time position until December 2026
  • Based in Adelaide South Australia

This position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role. To perform this role it is a genuine occupational requirement that the applicant is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent pursuant to an exemption under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA).

The Smith Family is a national childrens education charity that works with children and young people experiencing poverty to overcome their circumstances and reach their full potential by providing holistic long-term support for their education.

About the role

We are currently seeking to appoint a Indigenous Youth Leadership Program Support Officer based with our Adelaide Operations team. This role will provide a direct link between The Smith Family and the families and education partners who are involved with the IYL Program. Reporting to the IYLP Manager and working alongside dedicated energised and passionate team members you will:

  • Develop and maintain strong community relationships specifically with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Provide ongoing management and support to IYLP families and young people.
  • Ensure delivery of the Program within the guidelines of the funding body.

About you

As well as passion for community you will bring the following:

  • Ideally you will already have link to and strong developed contacts with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders Leaders and members of the community or the ability to establish and maintain these.
  • The ability to communicate and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain information to meet deadlines and to manage a diverse workload.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
