Job Description
Exciting opportunity for a creative journalist with a passion for the arts strong editing and writing skills and an eye for design. We are looking for an enthusiastic newsroom leader who is detail-minded deadline-driven organized and can write and produce engaging story packages and will nurture and recruit freelance writers and columnists.
Coast Weekend is a weekly arts and entertainment magazine focusing on art music food culture history books and the outdoors in Astoria Oregon. It is distributed widely in the community and inserted in The Astorian and Chinook Observer newspapers. It is published every Thursday focusing on the North Coast of Oregon and the Long Beach Peninsula in southwest Washington. The Columbia-Pacific is a vibrant region for the arts from music festivals to community theater Astorias FisherPoets Gathering and Fort George Brewerys Festival of Dark Arts to art walks author readings concerts galleries and a multitude of other activities year-round.
The Coast Weekend editor is responsible for every aspect of its publication--editing writing coordinating coverage by freelancers and overseeing design. He or she will also direct a weekly newspaper feature called Weekend Break and direct content and development of Our Coast an award-winning annual magazine with circulation throughout the Pacific Northwest.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated multimedia and social media skills for our digital first newsroom. This position serves as the digital editor for the popular online magazine counterpart for Coast Weekend and Our Coast and runs those social media accounts.
