Position Highlights

The Deschutes County Circuit Court in Bend Oregon is hiring a Mediation Coordinator (Program Coordinator).

In this role you will recruit train and oversee a panel of community volunteer mediators mentor and support a panel of court-connected domestic relations mediators and train and support traffic clerks who process small claims and landlord/tenant cases. You will prepare and present basic mediation curriculum training as well as organize and facilitate continuing education workshops meetings and debriefing sessions with mediators. You will also respond to feedback from judges court staff mediators and litigants.

In overseeing mediation services for small claims and landlord/tenant cases you will provide orientation for litigants at mediation sessions assign mediators to individual cases present stipulated orders and default judgments to the court and maintain program statistics. You will also perform data entry by entering judgments and orders into the case management system.

Additionally you will represent the court during meetings with community members facilitate negotiations between the court administrator and community interest groups respond to mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) questions conduct public outreach and education and develop new communication channels. There will be opportunities to network with mediation and legal services providers in other jurisdictions at the local and state level.

You will also investigate and analyze opportunities to improve and expand services as well as prepare reports about and recommend methods for expanding the courts ADR services. You will provide administrative support to the court administrator and the presiding judge participate in committee work and develop programs. Part of your time will be spent reviewing state laws policies and procedures as well as tracking pertinent legislative issues.

Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have a bachelors degree in business or public administration behavioral or social/human services or a closely related field.

AND

At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible technical or professional-level program experience that typically supports the knowledge skills and abilities required for the position.

OR

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to seven (7) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge skills and abilities for the position.
