Summary:

The Office of Residential Life is seeking an Area Coordinator to support and enhance the mission the Office of Residential Life & Explorations the Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for creating and maintaining a comprehensive residential environment that is academically and socially stimulating for the holistic development of students.

The AC oversees a residential area with approximately 300- 500 residents and a focus/functional area in the office. This position requires significant interaction and collaboration with many college partners. The AC serves on-call for the residential campus community on a rotating basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervision:
    • Supervise 10-14 Resident Assistants including 1-2 Senior Resident Assistants
    • Develop meaningful working relationships with Resident Assistants through one-on-one meetings and staff meetings
    • Facilitate training sessions staff development activities and on-going professional development for Resident Assistants

  • Community Development:
    • Implement community development strategies aligned with the residential curriculum
    • Work collaboratively with Facilities and Campus Safety to create a safe environment conducive to learning
    • Advise and recruit Hall Council members with the assistance of the Senior Resident Assistant
  • Conduct and Crisis Management:
    • Respond to crisis situations including but not limited to facilities related emergencies medical emergencies mental health emergencies and behavioral concerns as part of an on-call rotation
    • Responsible for understanding and upholding the Code of Community Standards and the Guide to Residence Hall Living in a developmental manner
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Responsible for a focus/functional area of the department
    • Coordinate department processes within assigned area including hall openings and closings life and safety inspections damage billing and room switches
    • Manage a budget used for programming and student staff development within their assigned area
Minimum
Qualifications & Education:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college by the time of employment
  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues related to residential living. Relevant experience in a defined leadership role in one or more of the following: residence life student activities and organizations and commitment to Rollins Colleges institutional goals
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in student personnel educational leadership counseling or a related field
  • Knowledge about and/or experience in a small residential liberal arts college
  • Live-in residential experience as a Graduate Assistant or Professional Staff
  • Working with a Residential Curriculum staff supervision training advising students and student groups
  • Experience working through crisis intervention and management and conflict resolution
  • Event planning written and oral communication and budget management
  • Residence hall administration and assessment

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based front-facing customer service position and working in an office environment
  • Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer
  • Fast-paced team environment requiring an ability to multitask
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to traverse stairs and travel between multiple buildings as part of duties
