Pima Countys Facilities Management department is hiring for multiple Trades Maintenance Specialist I. These multiple positions located at the Corrections Shop lead participate or operate independently in providing journey-level maintenance repair diagnosis troubleshooting construction fabrication and preventive maintenance. They require technical skills experience and knowledge in the area of specialization as well as training lead or supervisory skills and knowledge. This role is accountable for activities and ensure services or products comply with written procedures engineering drawings specifications contracts industry standards and statutory codes and requirements.
Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
Performs skilled analysis repair and maintenance of equipment systems and vehicles;
Leads fabrication and modifications of equipment systems and facilities based on verbal instructions sketches or technical drawings;
Inspects services and maintains tools equipment and vehicles;
Conducts quality-control analysis on equipment and systems implementing necessary corrective actions for optimal performance;
Inspects approves or certifies the work of others if certified or authorized;
Maintains detailed records of activity operations service and usage for equipment vehicles and systems;
Prepares oral and written activity reports and estimates for complex operations maintenance and special projects;
Prepares sketches and drawings to communicate work plans to supervisors subordinates and contractors;
Coordinates activities with other units agencies or contractors to ensure efficient resource use and minimize disruptions;
Monitors contractor performance including goods and services provided;
Conducts on-the-job training for employees in the assigned work-unit;
Manages the handling storage and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety protocols;
Maintains security and accountability for all tools equipment and materials especially in sensitive environments (e.g. medical law enforcement correctional settings);
Ensures the use of safety and personal protective equipment and implements work-site traffic control procedures;
Oversees the maintenance and care of turf grasses trees and ornamental shrubs including pest control fertilization and addressing plant health issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
Five years journey-level experience in the specific trade or craft appropriate to assigned duties.
OR:
Two years of experience with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Technician or closely-related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum three (3) years experience in general building maintenance: Repairing or replacing commercial/institutional-grade plumbing fixtures including faucets sinks water closets flushometers urinals and waterless units evaporative cooling tower maintenance. Utilizing mechanical and power drain augers. Reading and interpreting rough drawings and mechanical blueprints. Participating in aggressive preventative maintenance programs.
Experience with/knowledge of troubleshooting and repairing air handling equipment: bearings shafts fans pulleys dampers belts chilled and hot water coils. Experience performing filter changes lubricating inspecting and documenting HVAC and chilled water equipment. Experience calibrating or replacing pneumatic and low-voltage thermostats.
Experience servicing and repairing commercial lighting fixtures light controls switches and receptacles. Experience troubleshooting electrical motors and motor control centers. Experience replacing a variety of electrical motors and associated components. Experience with lock-out tag-out compliance procedures and understanding electrical schematics. Experience using and understanding voltage meters and amp probes.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment. Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards rules and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Some positions require Arizona certification as an herbicide/pesticide applicator or backflow device inspector/repair person or installer etc. at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Failure to obtain / maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities records and communication systems. Some positions carry the risk of exposure to infectious diseases blood-borne pathogens asbestos or wastewater products therefore special medical screening prior to or during employment may be necessary to assure employee health and safety. Physical/Sensory Requirements: A post-job-offerphysical is required. Physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position. Some positions require the ability to: lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds; safely operate assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; work in extremes of heat humidity dust cold; safely wear required safety clothing/equipment; work with on in the presence of obnoxious odors; work with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals compounds or products; ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiate between colors.
