Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Development the Leadership & Legacy Giving Officer is responsible for managing all aspects of the donor development cycle and stewardship of donors and prospects who have capacity to give at the major gift and planned giving level. A goal of ensuring strategic highly personalized engagement with donors who have a passion for philanthropic impact the incumbent will maximize revenue to support mission priorities. This position focuses on donor centered fundraising through the identification cultivation and solicitation of a robust portfolio of donors and prospects in support of The Salvation Army.
Key Accountabilities
- Cultivate and maintain a strong pipeline of prospects and donors aligned with organizational goals to secure philanthropic investments.
- Develop and execute tailored fundraising opportunities ensuring strategic initiatives are supported and donor interests are met.
- Secure major gifts planned gifts and legacy gifts handling agreements and documentation with a focus on long-term giving sustainability.
- Drive growth in planned giving through specific bequests insurance gifts annuities and endowments with a goal of 80% revocable and 20% irrevocable gifts annually.
- Build relationships with estate professionals (lawyers financial planners etc.) to inform them of giving opportunities with The Salvation Army.
- Work with internal program leaders to align fundraising with organizational goals and develop compelling investment opportunities for donors.
- Prepare proposals briefing notes agreements stewardship plans and communication content including donor stories and legacy articles.
- Record donor interactions in Raisers Edge NXT using data analysis to monitor donor trends retention and campaign success.
- Maintain an active prospect system set revenue targets review financial projections and participate in moves management strategies.
- Stay updated on fundraising trends tax legislation and planned giving strategies to continuously improve fundraising effectiveness.
Education and Experience Qualifications
- CFRE or working toward CFRE designation is preferred
- Minimum of a 2-to-3-year diploma/degree in Fundraising (preferred) Business Administration Marketing or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in fundraising securing leadership and legacy gifts that significantly impact organizational mission with knowledge and understanding of annuities tax laws and/or accounting
- Knowledge of Canadian fundraising best practices legislation tax implications and restrictions
- Proficient in major gift and planned giving strategies including donor cultivation solicitation and knowledge of relevant tax laws and trends.
- Excellent written verbal and listening abilities with a talent for crafting compelling proposals and clear presentations.
- Skilled in leading projects under tight deadlines managing multiple tasks and maintaining high attention to detail.
- Committed to ethical standards and compliance with Imagine Canadas Standards Program AFP Code of Ethics and legal requirements.
- Builds strong internal and external partnerships interpreting donor and corporate interests to enhance engagement.
- Highly organized and flexible able to prioritize effectively in dynamic environments.
- Works well in teams exercises sound judgment and handles sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Dedicated to the organizations mission and values and actively stays current in fundraising strategies and trends.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $60269.34 to $75336.67 with a maximum of $90404.00.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
