POSITION: ASSISTANT MEDICAL DIRECTOR

REPORTS TO: CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Lorain County Health & Dentistry (LCH&D) is a private nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to delivering the highest quality primary and preventive health care to underserved persons of all ages throughout Lorain County OH and beyond. Founded in 2002 LCH&D first operated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Look-Alike until designated by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as a funded FQHC in early 2009.

The largest safety-net provider in Lorain County LCH&D operates six community health centers in Lorain Elyria Oberlin and North Ridgeville and provides adult/family medicine pediatrics general and specialty dentistry podiatry optometry pharmacy and integrated behavioral health including Medication for Opioid Use Disorder. A focused vision solid mission effective strategic planning excellent leadership and management teamwork and perseverance have enabled LCH&D to grow significantly over the years. As a result LCH&D is a well-known and respected organization locally and at the state and federal levels.

Since its founding LCH&D has provided over one million doctor and dentist visits. In 2024 LCH&D treated 18386 Unduplicated Patients in 62899 medical and dental visits. Quality is highly valued at LCH&D and the health center is dedicated to providing the best clinical care and customer service possible. Today LCH&D places in the Top 10% for best overall clinical quality measure performance among all health centers nationwide. As such HRSA recently awarded LCH&D the coveted 2024 Health Center Quality Leader Gold Badge. LCH&D has more than 120 providers and staff and an $18 million annual operating budget. In addition to providing excellent clinical care the organization is well positioned both operationally and financially.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Medical Director will support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in providing clinical leadership ensuring quality patient care and driving continuous improvement within Lorain County Health & Dentistry. The Assistant Medical Director will assist in the implementation of clinical policies quality initiatives and regulatory compliance efforts. This role is a mix of administrative and clinical responsibilities requiring strong communication collaboration and problem-solving skills. The Assistant Medical Director also serves as a back-up to the CMO addressing practice medical problems that arise and representing the medical staff internally and externally.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical Support:
    • Provide direct patient care in designated field 32 hours a week. Remaining 8 hours will be dedicated to administrative hours.
    • Serve as a clinical resource for medical providers offering guidance and support on complex cases clinical protocols and best practices.
    • Participate in peer review activities providing constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Assist the CMO in implementing and monitoring quality improvement initiatives using data-driven approaches to enhance patient outcomes and efficiency.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical protocols and guidelines.
    • Help ensure compliance with clinical quality measures and reporting requirements.
    • Work with the CNQO to identify areas for improvement.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Assist the CMO in managing medical provider schedules and coverage ensuring adequate staffing levels.
    • Participate in the credentialing and privileging process reviewing applications and supporting documentation.
    • Help prepare reports and presentations on clinical quality and performance for senior management and the Board of Directors.
    • Represent the CMO at meetings and committees as needed.
    • May support the completion of performance appraisals or peer-review as designated by the CMO or designee.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Affairs:
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable local state and federal regulations and guidelines.
    • Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and best practices and communicate updates to medical providers.
    • Participate in audits and reviews as needed.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment among medical providers and staff.
    • Promote teamwork and communication across departments.
    • Support the CMO in mentoring and developing medical providers.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or nurse practitioner (NP).
  • Board certification in a primary care or relevant specialty (e.g. Family Medicine Internal Medicine Pediatrics OB/GYN).
  • Active unrestricted license in the State of Ohio.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role is preferred.
  • Experience with quality improvement methodologies and data analysis.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems (NextGen preferred).
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Fine and gross motor skills will be frequently employed.
  • Some lifting of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • 75% walking or standing 25% sitting at a desk.
  • Category I re: exposure to blood bodily fluids and communicable diseases.
