JOB SUMMARY

This position provides an array of clinical mental health services on a full-time basis for Columbia College students. This includes short term solution-oriented counseling for students experiencing developmental difficulties mental health concerns relational issues academic challenges and/or behavioral problems. The individual will manage a caseload provide outreach/consultation programs referral processes and procedures clinical records etc. Also consult with staff administrators faculty parents and students as necessary to facilitate the coordination of care for students. Additionally contribute and collaborate with professionals within and outside of the Division of Student Affairs to optimize healthy student development. This position reports to the Director of Counseling Services.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts initial client consultations and intake assessments.
  • Provides in person counseling and tele-therapy to students enrolled at Columbia College.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations. Records in an electronic healthcare record as required by Counseling Services and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provides brief case management and referrals as needed.
  • Provides community basedtriage services for students including but not limited to referrals for housing medical needs and health insurance.
  • Provides consultation and review of cases with campus partners in compliance with confidentiality laws. This may be provided as part of a case consultation or assisting with a crisis.
  • Consultswithfacultyadministratorsstaffandparentsregardingtheirconcernsaboutstudents.
  • Activelycultivatesandmaintainscollaborativeworkingrelationships with on campus departmentsprofessionalsandstudentgroupsandorganizationsthatpromoteandprovidecomplementary developmentaleducationalprogramsandservicesforstudents.
  • Serves on the administrator on call rotation for Student Affairs.
  • Student affairs staff meetings counseling team meetings one on ones with director of counseling and other meetings as requested.
  • Follows Columbia College policies and procedures consistent with mental health statutes and ethical guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Masters degree in counseling social work or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed as either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LMSW LISW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of South Carolina.
  • Experience and proven competency working with multicultural and other diverse populations.
  • Experience providing teletherapy.
  • Ability to provide brief and focused counseling as well as facilitating groups.
  • Experience providing risk assessment and crisis response.
  • Experience working as part of a collaborative team-based approach to providing counseling and other clinical services.
  • Excellent written verbal interpersonal and group communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Serve on college committees.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite utilizing Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires sedentary work that involves walking standing lifting carrying pushing and pulling some of the time. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment risks exposure to no known environmental hazards.
