The mission of the Childrens Attention Home is to provide nurturing care and life-changing services for youth and families in need. Every person on our 60 member team has an important role that leaves a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

As a provider of residential services to children who have experienced situations of abuse neglect or homelessness we must take the utmost care when reviewing candidates. Hiring policies are taken directly from the state and federal standards under which we operate. All candidates must agree to a SC Central Registry Check SLED check and fingerprinting.

Position Summary and Purpose:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general maintenance of CAH facilities. The ideal candidate will be required to perform basic repairs including simple plumbing carpentry painting sheetrock minor electrical general upkeep and helping with the ongoing maintenance of vehicles and grounds. Must have the knowledge of basic operations tools and terms used in building maintenance and repair work safe work practices and safe operation of a variety of hand and power tools.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs general maintenance affecting the upkeep of facilities including buildings grounds and equipment at the main campus and Bridge House.
  • Assists with the monthly inspection of all facilities and ensure that all noted exceptions are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with assigned supervisor to coordinate and supervise vendors who address outsourced maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintains fleet through weekly inspections daily response to service needs and quarterly and semi-annual preventive maintenance and routine service coordination.
  • Maintains compliance with building codes zoning DSS Fire Marshall OSHA and other agency requirements through performance of maintenance duties and inspections.
  • Maintains necessary logs and documentation required for presentation to internal and external inspectors.
  • Monitors the CAH maintenance request email site daily.
  • Responsible for adding specific requests to the maintenance performance log prioritizing each task and designating an expeditious completion date.
  • Works with and supervises volunteers who carry out tasks associated with the maintenance of facilities and fleet.

Education and Training:

A High School Diploma or GED is required Prior experience with a non-profit (including but not limited to a childrens services-related group home or similar organization) is preferred but not required. Must have knowledge and skills to perform handyman types of tasks and lawn care services.

License:

A valid drivers license is required and must be maintained throughout employment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

This position is very active and requires prolonged periods of standing walking bending kneeling stooping crouching crawling and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vison distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including lawn equipment power tools and office equipment.
