Job Description

Overview:


This employee will work the majority of their hours as a horse leader at our 2 barn locations but will be required to be in the clinic at least one 1/2 day a week to complete necessary paperwork and aide duties. In the offseason (Dec-March) they will be full time as an aide in the clinic.

Hours: Mon-Thurs typically 830am-5/6 pm depending on therapist schedule. Fri are 3-4 hours in the office during the barn season or however many hours they need to complete 40 hours for the week.

Valid Ohio drivers license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection insurance eligibility driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Childrens Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.


Job Description Summary:


Oversees daily horse operations for pediatric therapy incorporating hippotherapy as a treatment tool. Must be knowledgeable and follow American Hippotherapy Association best practice guidelines. Must be comfortable working with and around children with diverse and special needs.


Job Description:


Essential Functions:

  • Retrieves horses from paddock tacks them up leads them for session etc.). Performs other related equine tasks (lunging grooming etc.).
  • Completes registration and scheduling of patients.
  • Prepares and leads horses during mounted therapy sessions.
  • Creates volunteer schedules and communicates schedules to staff.
  • Organizes disinfects and inventories treatment tools.
  • Completes all required documentation from Physicians/Providers.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities of Therapy Aide while at main clinic during down time and off season.

Education Requirement:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure Requirement:

Certifications:

Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship certification required to be initiated within 6 months.

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge in equine movement and how to facilitate impulsion engagement of the hindquarters and quality transitions/figures.
  • Strong verbal written and interpersonal communications skills. Basic skills in reading and mathematics.

Experience:

  • Strong background and experience in leading lunging and equine exercise required.
  • Experience in managing horse behaviors safely and effectively required.
  • Experience and understanding of safety measures required in therapy setting required.
