About Us
Newham is an incredibly diverse borough with a very young population and is experiencing considerable regeneration as part of the Olympic legacy. There are over 86000 children and young people in Newham and we want each of them to have the same life chances as young people in other parts of London.
Newhams Children and Young Peoples Services is currently undertaking an exciting transformation programme to create integrated Early Help and Safeguarding services for our children young people and families. Our main aim for integrated working is to get it right first time for more children and young people. To do this we plan to grow our early help offer so that we make a real impact on children and young peoples learning achievement health wellbeing and resilience. We will closely align our services to improve accessibility for residents and to strengthen partnerships between statutory specialist early help and universal services.
This post is directly employed by the London Borough of Newham whom was the first London borough to offer a fully integrated 0-19 health and social care service after it assumed direct responsibility for providing Health Visiting and School Nursing service in 2017. Therefore our CYPS directorate will be delivering the 0-19 Healthy Child programme through the Childrens Health 0-19 Service.
We have a stable and permanent management team in the Childrens Health Service and are now recruiting experienced Nursery Nurses to the remaining vacancies in our Health Visiting Teams.
Newham 0-19 health service have a continual commitment working towards improving the lives of Children and Young People in the Borough. Please see below links for various health education films the service has produced with the support and showcasing our Super Star Service users.
Childrens Health0-19 service had their CQC inspection in 2021 and rated Good in all areas.
About the Job
To work as part of the London borough of Newham (LBN) Childrens Health 0-19 service as part of a skill mix team to deliver the refreshed Health Visiting model and evidenced by the Healthy Child Programme 0-5 years (HCP) in partnership with multi- professionals across the Early Help Neighbourhood.
To provide essential observation skills for the children and families within their homes childrens centres health centres/ GP surgeries and undertake nursery school visits including working in partnership with the school health service to facilitate the smooth transition of the rising 5s
To be proactive in establishing and facilitating effective Prevention and Early Intervention groups and deliver Health Promotion activities within a culturally diverse community based on locally identified needs through caseload profiling.
To carry out assessments for the delivery of the mandated elements of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) 0 5 5 -19 years to empower families and deliver the public health priorities to give every child the best start in life
To provide knowledge and skills on safeguarding children and will be expected to highlight any safeguarding concerns in accordance with the Newham and London Safeguarding Protocols.
To assist the health visitors in facilitating the healthy child advisory clinics including leading on the 2-2.5 years reviews using the national evidence based tool- Ages and Stages (ASQ) and delivery of the 6 high impact areas in partnership with Health visitors and childrens centres.
To work in partnership with the Nursery Nurses within the school health teams to strengthen the integrated approach of the 0- 19 years delivery model the Children Act 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children HM Government 2006.
About You
The candidate must be/ will have:
NNEB (National Nursery Education Board) NVQ L3 in childcare & Education
An understanding of Children Act & Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
Knowledge of Health and developmental issues affecting children
Experience of working with children of different ages parents and carers.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good organisational and planning skills.
Be IT literate e.g. using clinical systems word processing email and internet use.
